Songs you could listen to on repeat for hours...

I've been listening to "Poptones" on repeat for almost an hour, and I don't anticipate it growing old anytime soon.

I don't think it's a question of quality, per se, but there's definitely a specific quality to a song that one is able to listen to many times over without it ever growing old. Please: to give me more that hold up to this specious criterion.

(Also, somewhat recently, the following songs have held up to similar treatment: Spektrum's "Mayday" and Charlotte Hatherley's "Kim Wilde".)

I would like to think that the two different usages of "quality" above are easily parsed, but in these days of overly-snarky ILM-age, one cannot safely assume one (1) thing.

"Wot" by Captain Sensible. Hours? A little part of my brain has been listening to it for TWENTY FIVE YEARS.

This changes on a regular basis. Right now it's "Eye Talk" and "Dreaming" by Fashion. Earlier in the day it was Duran Duran's rock version of "My Own Way" that (as opposed to the disco one with all those strings). (Oh, and this would be the unedited version of same, the one without the early fadeout.) There was a whole weekend where I could not get enough of "Alles Klar" by Ultravox, and then on that Monday I felt like listening to "Paths And Angles" all day. It just depends on what song I'm addicted to at any given/particular time. It could be something completely different tomorrow.

"I Feel Love" (Donna Summer)
"Low Rider" (War)
"Ella Guru" (Beefheart)
"Song For El Salvador" (minutemen) [1 hour = 112 playings!]
"Flash Light" (Parliament)
"Leo" (Coltrane)

To hold my interest for a hour, generally a track must either (a) have an unstoppable groove, or (b) be crammed so full of sonic detail that each listening reveals new nuances. All of the above do one or the other.

(Good call on "Poptones" - I could listen to Wobble's bassline all day long.)

Usually repetitive/droney stuff here:

Bardo Pond - Inside
Unrest - Vibe Out
American Analog Set - Green Green Grass (the long version)

...basically it's when I wish that the song was recorded to last an hour or more...
