Okay, haven't really heard it yet, but it's curious, I had made up my mind that this year I was going to buy a copy of this, whether it was on sale or not:

Oh, it's one of the greatest albums ever made, period. I always love when December hits since I can play it again.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 19 November 2006 15:51 (nineteen years ago)

how cum great pumpkin never shows up

Dr. Alicia D. Titsovich (sexyDancer), Sunday, 19 November 2006 15:52 (nineteen years ago)

He flies away.

My CD copy is on Fantasy -- I always try and get a new Xmas album each year, so I guess I'll get two this time. (Now if only copies were at Tower...)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 19 November 2006 15:56 (nineteen years ago)

The Lex (The Lex), Sunday, 19 November 2006 16:05 (nineteen years ago)

tiit (tiit), Sunday, 19 November 2006 16:07 (nineteen years ago)

His voice indeed, good Lex.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 19 November 2006 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Monday, 20 November 2006 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

Is that Dreamies album seriously being reissued? I've always wanted to hear it.

Cap'n Guthrie (Digestion is Easy!), Monday, 20 November 2006 13:01 (nineteen years ago)

OK, somebody needs to fill me in about this Dreamies album. Now.

Jim M (jmcgaw), Monday, 20 November 2006 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

WIKIPEDIFICATION:

In the early 1970s, Bill Holt produced a recording called "Dreamies" - a collage of songs performed on guitar and synthesizer (a Moog Sonic 6) combined with snippets of found sound. The album consists of two long tracks (originally one on each side of the record) called Program 10 and Program 11, a reference to the Beatles' Revolution #9. "Dreamies" includes excerpts of radio and television broadcasts as well as samples taken from recordings by the Beatles. It is one the earliest examples of sampling in popular music.

don weiner (don weiner), Monday, 20 November 2006 20:15 (nineteen years ago)

off the top of my head, either First Thought/Best Thought or that new Cravats thing (which I am going to go pick up at the record store in a couple of hours).

sleeve version 2.0 (sleeve testing), Monday, 20 November 2006 20:15 (nineteen years ago)

John Fahey's Xmas LP is my fave of that genre, also the Beatles one (when the hell is THAT being reissued?!?!)

>> Hey orion what's the title of that Numbskull CD? I need to hear that!

I googled and it appears to be called Final Days Of Torture and is on My Mind's Eye Records. That's going on my Slsk wishlist :)

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 09:59 (nineteen years ago)

"Reissue of the year"

Hell, yeah. Reissue the whole year. As a box set.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 10:01 (nineteen years ago)

For some people this might be
(though not necessarily for me)
the reissue of the yieer:

Tutty Moreno feat. Joyce - Magica (rec.1981)

David Bachyrycz (David Bachyrycz), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 15:44 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, that too.

OK, here's the link for the Taking Sides I just posted

A Charlie Brown Christmas doesn't come without its (good) grief

The Redd And The Blecch (Ken L), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 15:52 (nineteen years ago)

Wow, that's amazing!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

Huh- Jerry Granelli played on the original Charlie Brown soundtrack! That's kind of nice. I saw him at the Victoriaville-fest last year performing Sandhills Reunion (the spoken word noir-western) which is great too, if nothing like Charlie Brown music.

o. nate (onate), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 16:41 (nineteen years ago)

The Pogues albums (mostly the first three, but the next two have a couple of decent tracks each)
Ornette Coleman, To Whom Who Keeps A Record (seriously, as good as This Is Our Music and The Shape Of Jazz To Come)
Meshuggah, Nothing (the re-recording with the eight-string guitars really does sound amazing, and the DVD features two hilarious videos - the "New Millennium Cyanide Christ" air-instruments one everybody already knows about, and one for "Rational Gaze" with Jens playing all instruments in a series of mullet and Afro wigs)
Motorhead, Another Perfect Day (the live disc smokes)
Probably everything Blue Note put out in their RVG series this year, like every year

pdf (Phil Freeman), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 17:08 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know if it was this year or last, but the Tropicalia comp on Soul Jazz is pretty great too.

o. nate (onate), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 17:12 (nineteen years ago)

Anyone got those Pretenders reissues?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 17:17 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yeah, the Rhino reissue of Dwight Yoakam's Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc. kicks ass, too. They should do one for Hillbilly Deluxe; that album doesn't get enough attention, forever existing in the shadow of the debut.

pdf (Phil Freeman), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 17:53 (nineteen years ago)

did the reissue of the charlie brown christmas cd fix the credits?

also, what is the difference b/w the reissue at top and the one that Starbucks is selling? (I'm going to guess Starbucks is selling the older version)

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 19:34 (nineteen years ago)

fave reissue of the year is the happy hate me nots retrospective. one of the greatest powerpop bands ever. there seem to be three tracks missing though which seems odd as both discs don't quite stretch to 70 minutes each.

electric sound of jim [and why not] (electricsound), Thursday, 23 November 2006 00:17 (nineteen years ago)

Apparently the credits on that Peanuts record are still wrong, as it was actually Bernard Purdie and Carol Kaye that rounded out the Vince Guaraldi Trio at that date.

The Redd And The Blecch (Ken L), Thursday, 23 November 2006 00:28 (nineteen years ago)

sorry

The Redd And The Blecch (Ken L), Thursday, 23 November 2006 00:28 (nineteen years ago)

Wait, whappen to the other reissue of the year thread? I'm not gonna re-post all that stuff about http://www.anthologyrecordings.com (but China Shop, Sainte Anthony's Fyre, My Solid Ground, Moondog [not the Viking], African Head Charge, and Suicide Commandos are all worth checking, in my order of preference, and also I reviewed China Shop on ILXOR's New Oversite, http://www.paperthinwalls.com, where you can also hear it screaming or streaming in the archive, can hear other stuff on anthology too)(and also my review of Lizzy Mercier Descloux's Best Off is archived at http://thefreelancementalists.blogspot.com ("Liquor For The Soul": just scroll down the page a litte bit there)(And John Lee Hooker's Hooker box has lots of prime rarities and well-chosen with famous friends, more of the former, as should be)

don (dow), Thursday, 23 November 2006 01:27 (nineteen years ago)

(...ILXOR's New Oversite... now *that* seems like teh reissue of teh yieer, uhuh)

tiit (tiit), Thursday, 23 November 2006 12:47 (nineteen years ago)

Six days to rerelease date!
