Sage Francis....who knows about him

So I heard "I Am Hip-Hop" and thought it was a good track. My friend got a copy of Personal Journals, and after the first listen, i think its pretty deck. "Broken Wings" is the highlight for me thus far. Has anyone else heard it and like it? To quote the P "fuck Anticon." Any other takers?

uh, correct me if I'm wrong, but Sage Francis is rather closely affiliated with Anticon, what with Inherited Scars coming out on the Giga Single. He's dope though.

That album is being called the next level of emo-hop if that means anything. I haven't given it a good listen yet, but I don't think it really avoids the common accusations that are directed towards the Anticon bunch. I am expecting it to be sort of like Atmosphere's "Lucy Ford" but far less dark and more eager and immediately introspective.

Sage Francis is just as dope as Slug i think theyve even toured together. I wouldnt call it emo-hop i'd call it a dope rapper still well within the respects of true hip hop speaking his mind."rewrite" was sick. I suggest you by the CD or give a good listening before you formulate any opinion.

Slug > Francis
I think both these dudes' lyrics are hit and miss but Francis also has that slam poet cadence that irritates the hell out of me. I know some people like that, but it ain't my thing.

Slug and Francis both do absolutely nothing for me. I'll take Dose One over either of those guys, and I don't even like Dose all that much.

Re: the original post... what does "pretty deck" mean? Was that known slang back in '02? I don't think I ever heard that.

Oh, and Sage Francis isn't on "I Am Hip Hop", he wasn't in DPD

He used to do a lot of the local poetry readings a few years back. As
someone else pointed out, he has a slam poetry background, and it was
very good, if you like that sort of thing. I actually hated his stuff
the first few times I saw him at readings, but either he grew on me,
or he got better.
He did very well at a few of the National slam competitions, if I
remember correctly.

Yeah, I defy anyone to listen to SF's "Hopeless" acapalla and say it's not EMO with a capital E M O.

I like Sage Francis, even if he does eat paint chips.
