Gram Parsons Documentary: Fallen Angel

Just came out on DVD. If you're a fan of Gram Parsons, you should definitely not miss this. Lots of thoughtful and thorough interviews with all the people intimately involved with his life and music, including a very candid Keith Richards.

It's shocking how bad a live performer he was. Everybody involved in the movie says as much. He was wasted all the time.

Anyway, if you think you might be interested in watching a bunch of people talk about a country rock guy whose been dead more than thirty years, this won't let you down. In fact you'll love it.

After just picking up the reissues of his two albums, I'm in the mood for this. Heard it's good as well. It's been put in my netflix queue.

After getting blown away by the Townes Van Zant documentary, which was a true cinematic experience, I thought this was more suited for A&E than laying down $10 for it. There was a bit too much talking over the actual music performances (even if they weren't any good). But it is a nice chunk of history.

I do think Hillman's honest commentary was good because he has such a different take on a character who has this insanely huge myth surrounding him.

This was much better than I thought it would be judging by the various reviews I'd seen. I thought it was very well done, esp. considering the budget!

Quite good. Not knowing a whole lot of background about Parsons, it was strange to find out towards the end that some of the people you'd been listening to for the past 90 minutes still hated each other. Billy Bob Thorton will have to play Chris Ethridge in the fictionalized version some day; Dennis Quaid can shave his head and play Bernie Leadon.
