was just listening to "with you" and admiring his restraint as a singer. he's totally confident with his voice, and really knows how to lay back. ("with you" pretty much rips off its acoustic-guitar groove from "irreplaceable," but i don't mind.)

(there are parts of that song where he loses the melody, but i'm not sure if that's his fault or the song's.)

what i mean is, if you listen to a song like "no air", he's completely blown out of the water by jordin sparks in terms of straight singing, but i think brown makes the song. he knows how to fuck around with his voice (like a natural over-autotune or something) and he really knows his place in terms of restraint (which you brought up, otm to you). way more skilled than a lot of ppl give him credit for i think

Jay-Z Vowes Revenge "Hes A Walking Dead Man"
Jay-Z "hit the roof" when he heard about the alleged assault on Rihanna, according to an insider. A source close to Jigga says that Jay-Z has vowed to get revenge on Chris Brown if the story ends up being true. “He hit the roof. Chris is a walking dead man. He messed with the wrong crew,” the source told US Weekly.

Like he basically beat up a woman and got MORE famous: a Vibe cover story, top billing on TV Award Shows, spending the weekend jet-skiing with Diddy. No one in the industry even took a stand against him but Jay-Z.
Dude hasn't suffered, afaik. Give dude a 10-year radio blackout and then maybe I'll listen to his dipshit crocodile tears.

― incredible length (J0rdan S.), Monday, 28 June 2010 19:11 (2 months ago) Permalink
or so it was said
I agree that he can and should be able to get past this; part of doing that is, for example, not being pissy about people being wary of his records in the immediate aftermath and not turning tributes to Michael Jackson into pontification platforms about himself
I agree, I think it is his attitude towards the incident which has put people off as much as the incident itself -- he expected saying sorry to make everything okay, and has acted angry and butthurt ever since when his album didn't do as well as he expected it to. No one is owed record sales.

Even though I hated half his songs it's pretty much undeniable that dude was being groomed for supermegastardom; he'd had a successful introduction into the world of black cinema and sold a shit-ton of records and was dating the woman everyone wanted to bone. Basically about the only thing he could have done to fuck everything up was... beat the shit out of her and then wonder why wearing a gaudy necklace that said "OOPS!" in cartoon font pissed people off. Which he did.

yeah the choice of song material seems totally self-serving and narcissistic, kinda self-defeating no matter how genuine his breakdown is. it's both genuine and horribly cynical at the same time...
Hold up -- aren't all you guys assuming that Chris Brown himself chose "Man in the Mirror" for the tribute? I'd assume the decision would be more than likely made by a Sony/Jive head honcho, or some BET executive/publicist/team, looking to turn this into an "OMG" zeitgeist talking point moment. I'm not sure that Chris would've had a say in what he performed; dude was more than likely handed a script and told to learn the choreography and roll with it.

so I know everyone hates him now and stuff but "Deuces" is kind of a huge hit, so we should probably talk about it?
I think it's great song honestly, could actually be my favorite single of his ever. Would be even better without Tyga & Kevin McCall... and I like "No Bullshit" from that mixtape as well. Sticking to the core R&B format is really the only way he'll make a "comeback," Grafitti was garbage (besides "Sing Like Me,"), "Deuces" is exactly what he should be doing(though I guess in the context of him and Rihanna's relationship, the song is kind of gross and those that view everything he does through that lens will continue to view him as an asshole but that's neither here nor there).
