Furtado films video in Puerto Rico
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) - Fans of Canadian singer Nelly Furtado and Latin hip hop group Calle 13 lined the cobblestone streets of Old San Juan under a broiling Caribbean sun Monday for a glimpse of the pop stars.
Furtado and Calle 13 were filming a video for No hay igual, a song from her latest CD.
Furtado and Calle 13 sang and danced for the video in and around the historic old city, a popular tourist district known for his colonial architecture.
Rene Perez, of Calle 13, said he hoped the video would help them both reach new audiences.
"It's a good opportunity for us both. More than the North American market, the European market really interests me and her because her family is Portuguese," he said.

And I also especially like Residente de Calle 13's contribution to Voltio's "Chulin Culin Chunfly." Also, Calle 13's "Querido FBI" is maybe worth hearing, if you know the context (the FBI's killing of aging PR militant nationalist, Filiberto Ojeda Rios, apparently intentionally timed to coincide with an important PR historical anniversary).

Reggaeton, yes, but they don't always stick to that template, like some others who get classified that way. Since that's unreasonably slow at the moment, I like:

I don't think Nelly Furtado is on the new one.

And sure Calle Trece's Clash/Public Enemy style radical chic thing is a tad annoying, but there are tracks worth hearing that outweigh the stylistic tics

Thought at least one other ilxer who has expressed interest in Calle 13 in the past, would chime in here....oh well.

Thinking about that NY Times piece, kinda wish now there were more details on their music and how it has changed, and their relationship to reggaeton and the state of reggaeton and Puerto Rican rap.

Gawker's car blog, Jalopnik, is all pissed off that Residente pushed his Maserati off a cliff in Calle's new video.
And if you were waiting for me to chime in...well, I streamed the first two or three tracks from the album on Rdio and I definitely feel like it's their weakest effort. But I think they've been going downhill every album since their second one.
Here's a harsh but fair review.

Apparently, I was really into drawing attention to Calle 13 back in 2006, pandering to the Furtado fans on ILX--to appear up on something?

I kinda lost interest in them circa the last album but I might check this out

I'd be lying if I said that I didn't wish they were still making songs like Atrevete-te-te but I thought Entren Los Que Quieran was decent enough. The single Multi Viral has me fearing for the album but I'll give it a go anyway.
