TS: Pebbles' "Mercedes Boy" vs "Girlfriend"

Two rather forgotten huge hits in 1988 by the subsequent manager of TLC. The former strikes me as one of the best L.A. Reid-Babyface productions: all slinky guitar, beat box, and Janet-esque understatement.

What say you?

Yes, "Mercedes Boy." The gender flip is great: the title invites you to think it's about a boy who owns a Mercedes, and in general it's more usual to have a song where it's a man being skeevy about taking women for rides. But instead...dum dum dum.

Pebbles received exposure in 1987 when she appeared on the Beverly Hills Cop II soundtrack LP. Under the production of Andre Cymone, she sang "Love/Hate"; ...love this song.
