7 years pass...

Was surprised, when trying to track down children's music reissues from this decade, that so far as I can tell everything by Fred Rogers/Mister Rogers music-wise is out of print and has been since the '90s. Surprised because that core of 20 songs or so are timeless classics of children's music:

"You Are Special"
"Won't You Be My Neighbor"
"Sometimes People Are Good"...

this guy defined classic imo, watching his acceptance speech on the daytime emmys in 1997 is humbling.

I spoke too soon. Most of the all-favorite Mister Rogers tracks have been compiled on four theme-based CDs available through Family Communications, Rogers's old nonprofit production company:

Every song is classic, and they're well worth the cost plus shipping (about $70), but I'll have to wait until I have money. Meanwhile, the scratchy rarities getting posted online make me think they should release a box set:

One of my teachers in HS, after Rogers died, talked about how he respected Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood cause the music wasn't dumbed down for the kids, it was always good jazz.

And I don't think he dumbed down the ideas or emotions, either, but saw them from the point of view of little children, which is amazing when you think about it.

They are not too difficult to track down at thrift stores / resales and second-hand shops.
