I wonder what happened to Richard Davis?

Anyone know where I may 'acquire' that John Beltran - Decembers Tragedy tune?

Message me!

Cheers in advance :-)

Richard Davis' most recent musical releases are two 10" ep's from last year. "Self Destruct" is very good and has a soft sad techno remix on the flip. Haven't heard the other one.

Judging by the preview, the new John Roberts album sounds amazing:

The Kiasmos (Olafur Arnalds and pal) album is pretty.

If you sat and hit a jam jar with a stick along to it it would probably sound like Lawrence.

djh, Saturday, 22 November 2014 12:36 (nine years ago) link

this Kiasmos album is real nice, ty. it's so easy to make a mediocre version of this style, but this pretty much nails it.

Used to give that one a miss and always play Charles Webster's Love From San Francisco mix. Love both.

I am loving the Kiasmos album.

it's like eluvium with beats, lovely soft and sad beats.

it's almost perfect.

Bait. When put like that I need to check this out.

a pleasant little psychedelic detour in the elevator (Amory Blaine), Friday, 28 November 2014 17:35 (nine years ago) link

It's very, very slick. I can kind of hear Lawrence-y atmospherics but neater; Buzzin' Fly-ish maybe?

(I should stay off message boards after alcohol).

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Saturday, 29 November 2014 01:55 (nine years ago) link

Kiasmos album is good - very reminiscent of Pantha Du Prince and there's no mistaking the involvement of Olafur Arnalds - but I wish the drums and percussion weren't so slight. "Bent" is incredible though, can't wait for the inevitable Dixon edit.

boxedjoy, Tuesday, 2 December 2014 22:17 (nine years ago) link

I liked most of the Kiasmos album ok, but when things pick up near the end it gets rather messy and unnecesary loud imo, that was a bit of a let down. It's nice, but nowhere near as good as Lawrence or Pantha du Prince.

What's the Lawrence album I should check out?

Evan, Wednesday, 3 December 2014 22:06 (nine years ago) link

'The Absence of Blight' is his masterpiece if you ask me, followed by 'The Night Will Last Forever'

I was mostly disappointed in that Christian Loeffler follow-up, the first album was insanely good though.

Agree Kiasmos gets a bit too loud too soon - I actually like the later tracks a lot, I would just have preferred the more relaxed atmosphere to last a little longer #chilloutroom4lyfe

Tried some Lawrence but it just doesn't emotionally engage me at all.

ledge, Friday, 5 December 2014 11:12 (nine years ago) link

I can only think that you are listening to the wrong Lawrence ...

djh, Friday, 5 December 2014 18:32 (nine years ago) link

I started to dive into Lawrence but grooveshark locked up and broke my browser so I'll queue it up again. I was really enjoying it (maybe one track before it quit)!!

Evan, Friday, 5 December 2014 18:37 (nine years ago) link

i checked out a bunch on youtube and felt the same as ledge, it's really nice but felt a little too slick or hotel lounge-y for me.

i just have a real weird relationship with four-on-the-floor dance music, i don't listen to much of it. lush & pretty is good, but the stuff that really clicks tends to feel 'raw' and tactile in some way.

festival culture (Jordan), Friday, 5 December 2014 18:56 (nine years ago) link

Lawrence is so good in the winter.

brotherlovesdub, Friday, 5 December 2014 19:07 (nine years ago) link

maybe it's the house basslines that undercut the staring-off-into-the-distance vibes for me
