Actually all four of Elektronische Musik Interkontinental are pretty moody and worth getting. The first two are more ambient, but still nice. I think I like 3 best, if only for the broker dealer remix.

Kaito, Special Love

David Bowie, "A New Career in a New Town" - that intro sounds so techno to me. And, from the same album, I'd like to request a Superpitcher remix of "Always Crashing in the Same Car".

Omar (Omar), Monday, 21 November 2005 12:41 (eighteen years ago) link

Also, check out the Fallen Angel LP by Prism, Susumu Yokota's techno guise. Yokota has made lots of soft, sad music, but the rest I've heard isn't exactly techno, more like ambient/experimental.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 21 November 2005 12:42 (eighteen years ago) link

I have this wonderful LP of sad Russian techno with melancholy vocals, but I have no idea how to transcribe the band name into Western alphabet (so I can't even google it), in Russian it reads something like "ARROU". Maybe someone here knows what I'm talking about, the album has a red cover, it came out a few years ago and I think it was released by V2 Records.

The vibe of the Superpitcher remix of "Hi Freaks" is such a specific Superpitcher vibe that it almost seems a waste of time to suggest anyone else, but:

The Kiasmos (Olafur Arnalds and pal) album is pretty.

If you sat and hit a jam jar with a stick along to it it would probably sound like Lawrence.

this Kiasmos album is real nice, ty. it's so easy to make a mediocre version of this style, but this pretty much nails it.

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Saturday, 29 November 2014 01:55 (nine years ago) link

Kiasmos album is good - very reminiscent of Pantha Du Prince and there's no mistaking the involvement of Olafur Arnalds - but I wish the drums and percussion weren't so slight. "Bent" is incredible though, can't wait for the inevitable Dixon edit.

boxedjoy, Tuesday, 2 December 2014 22:17 (nine years ago) link

I liked most of the Kiasmos album ok, but when things pick up near the end it gets rather messy and unnecesary loud imo, that was a bit of a let down. It's nice, but nowhere near as good as Lawrence or Pantha du Prince.

Agree Kiasmos gets a bit too loud too soon - I actually like the later tracks a lot, I would just have preferred the more relaxed atmosphere to last a little longer #chilloutroom4lyfe

Tried some Lawrence but it just doesn't emotionally engage me at all.

i just have a real weird relationship with four-on-the-floor dance music, i don't listen to much of it. lush & pretty is good, but the stuff that really clicks tends to feel 'raw' and tactile in some way.
