The Kiasmos (Olafur Arnalds and pal) album is pretty.

If you sat and hit a jam jar with a stick along to it it would probably sound like Lawrence.

this Kiasmos album is real nice, ty. it's so easy to make a mediocre version of this style, but this pretty much nails it.

It's very, very slick. I can kind of hear Lawrence-y atmospherics but neater; Buzzin' Fly-ish maybe?

Kiasmos album is good - very reminiscent of Pantha Du Prince and there's no mistaking the involvement of Olafur Arnalds - but I wish the drums and percussion weren't so slight. "Bent" is incredible though, can't wait for the inevitable Dixon edit.

I liked most of the Kiasmos album ok, but when things pick up near the end it gets rather messy and unnecesary loud imo, that was a bit of a let down. It's nice, but nowhere near as good as Lawrence or Pantha du Prince.

What's the Lawrence album I should check out?

'The Absence of Blight' is his masterpiece if you ask me, followed by 'The Night Will Last Forever'

I was mostly disappointed in that Christian Loeffler follow-up, the first album was insanely good though.

Agree Kiasmos gets a bit too loud too soon - I actually like the later tracks a lot, I would just have preferred the more relaxed atmosphere to last a little longer #chilloutroom4lyfe

I started to dive into Lawrence but grooveshark locked up and broke my browser so I'll queue it up again. I was really enjoying it (maybe one track before it quit)!!

i checked out a bunch on youtube and felt the same as ledge, it's really nice but felt a little too slick or hotel lounge-y for me.

i just have a real weird relationship with four-on-the-floor dance music, i don't listen to much of it. lush & pretty is good, but the stuff that really clicks tends to feel 'raw' and tactile in some way.

Lawrence is so good in the winter.

maybe it's the house basslines that undercut the staring-off-into-the-distance vibes for me

it sounds very melancholy to me in a wistful, pensive, James Stinson interstate truck driving at night kind of way but whatever I’m heavily depressed so

maybe not so soft but i hear the melancholy in it for sure. the synth lead does fade in and out like street lamps floating by on a highway
