Yep! and you said it first, but not last!
― Mark G, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 15:26 (seventeen years ago)
I've heard it. It sounds nothing like any previous Guns N' Roses record, but it's very good in a weird cyber-thrash-rawk way.
― unperson, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 16:29 (seventeen years ago)
i heard one of the tracks (the first one i think?) a couple of weeks ago and it sounded like a train wreck
― tissp, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 16:38 (seventeen years ago)

how big of a bomb is this going to be?
― Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 16:52 (seventeen years ago)
Well, it seems like a given that it'll do big first week numbers and get tons and tons of press so it'll be a success in the short run...but yeah, a couple months down the road, noone will be listening to it and radio won't be playing anything from it and it will have sold way less than previous GNR albums.
― The hardman from the hilarious 'ilx' admin log (some dude), Tuesday, 18 November 2008 16:58 (seventeen years ago)

Klosterman: "I've been thinking about this record for 15 years; during that span, I've thought about this record more than I've thought about China, and maybe as much as I've thought about the principles of democracy. "
I hope he's fucking kidding.

Hmmmm. Kinda weird. The only original member left is the singer. And his voice is unrecognizable.

In a 2007 interview, Axl Rose's close friend Sebastian Bach stated that Chinese Democracy will be the first installment in a trilogy of new albums. Bach also remarked that Rose had told him the third, as yet untitled, album has been slated for 2012.

Chinese Democracy is not good music imho.

Chinese Democracy is actually worse than Visiting Day in the first season of The Sopranos.

I listened to the second youtube up there. It takes a minute for the music to start, and another minute for the song to get going. The riff and the phrasing refuse to groove on purpose. The shrieking harmony reminds me of Paul Leary's solo album.

i kind of like this
axl really needs to collaborate with jennifer herrema, they could make the masterpiece of ridiculously overprocessed hard rock

As a pearl pagoda forged to entomb wretched excess, WAR couldn't have picked a better time to unleash it: right at the start of the Great Depression II. Cool. I'm fascinated listening to it as an amazingly vulgar joke. Best yuks so far: MLK as guest rapper and those four notes bellowed by some huge choir that end one of the endless power-ballad-y things. And how rock-n-roll is that cover art?
