What did they play? Mostly new material?
Also, did they have any merchandise (I'm mostly wondering about some of their older harder to find CDs) for sale?

Anyone care to offer up a suggested playlist for the poppier side of Deerhoof?

some reasonably poppy songs without all those time changes & awkward chords (my favourite bits, sadly)

I can't really think of any deerhoof songs that are non poppy.

dirt pirate creed contains little pop

lol your label co-released 'Look Away', which is hardly a pop song

"Believe ESP" from Friend Oppo is pretty poppy. Missus T is still whistling the Stravinksian chorus thing from it three years after it came out. "Secret Mobilization" from the new record is a sweet jam also.

I probably have too wide a definition of pop.

"Black Pitch" is great. Love when the rhythms collide and manage to stay in tune.

From Rolling 2016 Indie Rock/Pop:
Just finished my first listen to Deerhoof's The Magic(on promo, not First Listen, though that's linked below. Dunno how sound quality compares, FL's sometimes isn't as good). 15 tracks in 40' 29", and I know I haven't taken it all in, but plenty instant gratification---"Plastic Thrills" could've been the fitting title track---and I love the drumming throughout:http://www.npr.org/2016/06/16/480602873/first-listen-deerhoof-the-magic

yeah, ive never been a huge Deerhoof guy but i thought that new one sounded great...for the band's fans, is this their most "accessible"? or no?

i don't think The Magic is any more accessible than Apple O' or Milk Man or Breakup Song. it is fantastic though, has some of my favorite songs of theirs in years ("Criminals of the Dream," "Acceptance Speech," "Debut").
