I think it's a full-on classic. Post-Disco Beat, Intro Synths, Catchy Singable Chorus. Classic up that ass, with kerosine gas.

the 'best of' (featuring GET DOWN TONIGHT, BOOGIE SHOES, SHAKE YOUR BOOTY, SOUND YOUR FUNKY HORN etc) is aces!

they really were a 'sunshine' band, and who would begrudge them that?

I swear I was gonna start this thread a few days ago. This is probably their greatest song, unsullied by wedding-reception requests. It's so giddy, propulsive, and unstoppable.

this song is so so perfect, joyous but a bit sad; there something really yearning in the vocals, like it's hard for the guy to cope without her giving it up. i kind of think he's singing a girl with a drug problem. ("give it up cos i need your love" / "everyone here wants you" unless we are talking orgitasticness than that would suggest she is messing herself up in some way.) i try and play this song in the style of mission of burma's academy fight song.

I really liked this song myself when it was big, pretty substantial radio hit in my neck of the woods. Chorus comes to mind readily, I still hear the little tweaks in the delivery he did towards the end of the song...not bad!

And it charted rather late (1984, no?) for a band considered a disco act.

fucking weird. i was totally just looking for this song to download on Limewire. thanks, voltron8080!

The song kinda precludes FYC a little bit.. especially circa The Raw And The Cooked. (I stress "kinda")

Totally hear that, and also shades of it in Londonbeat's "I've Been Thinking About You."

this song never fails to make me happy whenever i hear it. it wasn't the best song from '84, but that's only a reflection of how super-strong '84 was pop-wise and not a reflection of how strong this song is (i.e., in another year it would've been one of that year's best pop hits).

"baby give it up"'s connection to other classic KC songs = its sly, understated intro (leading up to the horn explosion)!

The Sunshine Band was out of the picture by 1984 - this was a KC solo hit. And to the person who said this song was a little late for a disco act..."Give It Up" was actually a short-lived comeback.

With all that out the way, I always did like this song - those horn charts are like a ripoff of latter-day Earth, Wind & Fire.

I wrote a song called 'Give It Up'. This one is better.

"Are You Ready" is also an infectuous solo KC track.

As is "Sound Your Funky Horn" — even though I think it's one of their earliest singles, I'm not sure they ever topped it.
