I have a couple of albums but only given them precursory listens. Not bad, but not really interesting enough to hold my attention. Haven't heard the mixes you mentioned.

Search: Rinse, the EP collection, and the remixes of Badly Drawn Boy - 'The Shining' and Andy Votel - 'Girl On A Go-Ped'

and his stuff with Bronze Age Fox .. but thats something else really, hopefully his BP remix wil be on their forthcoming remix album as i have yet to hear it, and i know Dave was rather chuffed with it ..

lovely chap - he used to work next door to where i worked so we chatted about all sorts from time to time ..(interview posted in usual place if interested..)

i really like the new album, tis more solid than the rinse collection, but there is a vocal track on rinse that is just gorgeous.

i'm listening to Maritime now and it's actually quite good.

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 10:00 (7 years ago) Permalink

update: so i didn't really like maritime to start with - i thought it was a bit derviative of old idm stuff to be honest. i've had it on repeat the last few days and, well i was very very wrong. sure there is an element of the old idm standards, but if any it's all the best bits. the tunes and harmonies are lovely, with lots of different sounds and instruments. the whole thing is just really satisfying. i'm sorry i neglected this album for nearly a year.

I only finally got this the other week, though I have the one before it and gave it a 'it's nice but it's no surprise' AMG review. If this one's a step up from that, though, then good.

yeh man, give it a go. it's very zingy and sea chantyish.

still really really good - fans of melodic IDM like Ulrich Schnauss/plaid/boc/Plone etc should love this!

It was nice, yeah.

just bumped into dave/minotuar shock.
new album about to be released on 4ad.
expect very special packaging for the limited edition version.
also, could be more stuff released under his techno alias, principal participant.
that is, once he fixes his computer.

no one seems to have mentioned Amateur Dramatics on ilm, which is a shame as it's great: a little bit Italo, a little bit Saint Etienne, varied and inventive but also very accessible. And each track is priced according to a complex evaluating system.

braveclub, Friday, 5 December 2008 16:17 (4 years ago) Permalink

How complex?

Matt DC, Friday, 5 December 2008 16:30 (4 years ago) Permalink

really liked amateur dramatics, and production is ace

Dominique, Friday, 5 December 2008 16:43 (4 years ago) Permalink

"How complex?"

marks for 'technical difficulty', number of musicians used, etc

braveclub, Friday, 5 December 2008 16:44 (4 years ago) Permalink

yeah that limited edition never happened. shame as the plans sounded great.
good album.
lets hope some copies of the US cd edition find their way over UK side.

Very, very good indeed, in fact.

otm, been listening to this a lot with increasing returns; lovely drumming all over it, esp. on "Ocean Swell".

I used to love Maritime when it was out. Which bits you listening to Sicko?
