"Telling myself Im a playa so I keep tryna shake it off,But I keep on seeing this big old house with a picket fence and a dog,Never felt nothing like this,Shes more than a mistress enough to handle my business,Now put that girl in my kitchen,"

I still can't believe a dude who was arrested for having sexual relations with a 15 year old girl, including urinating on her, would name one of his songs "Number One"....

good song iirc

I still can totally believe that he would write a song complaining to God about people on earth getting angry at him for urinating on a 15 year old girl, and include the line "so shower down on me, wet me with your love"

is anyone else listening to Love Letter? right now i especially like the title track, Love Is (duet with K. Michelle), and radio message. there aren't a lot of classic r. kelly being r. kelly moments, but they're in here (e.g. the "a love letter christmas" remix)
― /\/K/\/\, Thursday, 16 December 2010 03:26 (2 years ago) Permalink
little bit of talk in the R&B thread
dig the title track too, and "radio message" and "when a woman loves" and especially "number 1 hit". rest is kinda all over the place and not really feeling the couple throwback joints after "when a woman loves"
― k3vin k., Thursday, 16 December 2010 03:52 (2 years ago) Permalink
so he has a song called "number one hit" a year after he had a single called "number one"? it's starting to verge on sad given how long it's been since he had a song hit #1 on any chart anywhere.
― some dude, Thursday, 16 December 2010 04:01 (2 years ago) Permalink
iirc song on last record called "be my #2" and a another loose track right before that (which i loved) called "#1 fan"

this album is so great! title track is my favorite thing he's done in years. lots of these songs sound like they should be hit singles -- wonder if any of them will succeed, or are they too out of step with the times?
― swvl, Friday, 24 December 2010 18:25 (2 years ago) Permalink
too out of step methinks ;_;
the stretch from "taxi cab" --> "radio message" --> "when a woman loves" --> "love is" is just one of the best things i've heard all year, just absolutely stunning
― i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Friday, 24 December 2010 18:39 (2 years ago) Permalink
yeah, that run is incredible. love the way the first four tracks flow, too. very well sequenced lp.

― tears of a self-clowning oven (The Reverend), Friday, 31 December 2010 19:18 (2 years ago) Permalink
I don't necessarily love this yet but I like it. have only had a few listens though. his voice sounds great, some of the material doesn't grab me as much as the rest. "Taxi Cab" is my favorite so far even if it is a bit incongruous with the rest.
― O'Shea the Cubeman (San Te), Friday, 31 December 2010 19:39 (2 years ago) Permalink
i like how "taxi cab" is one of the four or whatever mj tributes on the album but is secretly the best of them by avoiding the obvious/kinda played out off the wall/thriller moves and going for angsty bad-era balladry "dirty diana"-style
― tears of a self-clowning oven (The Reverend), Friday, 31 December 2010 19:51 (2 years ago) Permalink
first half is great, (as said before obviously) 2nd half doesn't interest me at all. the MJ tributes are sweet, i think he sounds more like MJ than Jackson on that new fake album.

OLDHAM: Seven days on a boat . . .
KELLY: I met some interesting people. I met this lady, man. She reminded me of the lady from Titanic [1997]. She had written Broadway plays. She was, like, 81. But she was actually living on this boat.
OLDHAM: She had a suite?
KELLY: Yeah, she had a suite and she just traveled. But one night she got on the piano and started to play and we sat and drank and talked. Her spirit was unbeliev able. White lady. Martha something . . . Unbelievable lady. She took me back to her room and wanted me to meet her husband. Me and my guys all went. We had a ball on that boat, man.

I need to read his new memoir:
"As the film credits started to roll, I couldn't move. I burst into tears. People walking past me patted me on the back, trying to console me. 'The Notebook' was beautiful, and I was crying because its hero and heroine had died together.
But I was also crying because I remembered a Valentine's Day -- when a helicopter dropped a rainfall of roses -- that had come and gone ... My marriage had died. And there was nothing I could do to bring it back."
A rainfall of roses!
