Electric Picnic in September...

Is anyone going? I'm thinking of Saturday only but then there is some good on the Sunday. But how to convince friends to go in the first place? Threats and guilt might be the only way...

More info if you need it here: http://www.electricpicnic.ie/flash.html

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 14:37 (eighteen years ago) link

Definitely going. Missed out on playing sadly but some of my colleagues from our night are DJing. Should be a great time.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 15:41 (eighteen years ago) link

What night would that be (the DJ thing)? I'm just going for the saturday, not looking forwards to that bus ride home! Still though, I've heard some great things about the Lips live so looking forwards to that among others. Any particular acts anyone else really looking forwards to?

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 11 August 2005 10:00 (eighteen years ago) link

two weeks pass...
REVIVE! Tickets bought, all set to go. Quick question festival fans, best way to keep stuff safe? I'm sticking by the old "bring nothing you care about" rule but being so devillishly cute and baby faced I think I'm probably going to need a passport but I'm not so sure I want to bring it around with me.

Still and all though, yay!

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Friday, 26 August 2005 10:05 (eighteen years ago) link

Ah right the night I play at is Backlash. so Backlash DJs is the guys who are from our night.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 26 August 2005 18:39 (eighteen years ago) link

Righto, I'll keep an eye open. Be good weather gods, be good...

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Monday, 29 August 2005 14:00 (eighteen years ago) link

Aw lads, it was brilliant. Only caught the last 20 minutes of Kraftwerk as the Lips were on at the same time but still, worth the drunken run!

Highlight: Arcade Fire. Stunning, can't praise them highly enough. There was no duff performances or anything to complain about. Boutique is right, it was like they'd just stocked all the best bands and gone for it. Fantastic like.

Ronan, a thousand apologies, I missed Backlash. How was it?

Online buying albums right now, damn you music festival with your hidden costs afterwards!

Bump.

Who's going this year? I am so there again but three nights?! I'm not a machine!!!

Bump. Tickets bought, tent being bargained for. Only 48 cans per head? The monsters! Will need to tailgate it. No glass bottles? Well nothing says classy than a bottle of club orange half filled with vodka!

I don't see Backlash this year again. Ronan, are you going to be added later?

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 10:13 (eighteen years ago) link

We are there but we don't get listed I think.

I am playing at either this or the forthcoming Garden Party thing, haven't got confirmation yet. Should be a real laugh either way.

Am definitely going even if not playing.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 10:32 (eighteen years ago) link

Aw yeah. Great line up altogether. The Garden Party sounds quite varied and could be really fantastic but I can only do one of the festivals this year and it will have to be 'old faithful.' Also I

What did you think of last year? Had such a great time just pottering around. This year I will definitely see Backlash, I promise. I might swing by Rogue (it is there yeah?) on a Thursday to get a taster. Look for the fellah yelling for minimal beats, bobbins and shit!

is anyone selling a ticket for this please please? thats my real email address kthxbye

Michael B (Michael B), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 14:39 (seventeen years ago) link

I shall be in attendance. Tickets are sold out and one or two lazy assed friends who said they'd come are now ticketless, bastardos, esp the one who lives nearby whose lawn I camped on before. Damn you, now I have to camp onsite and not have a nice shower or toilet!
Do Americans DO camping at festivals like us euro types?

Major Alfonso (Major Alfonso), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 20:13 (seventeen years ago) link

Yep I'm going. A few mates went last year and had an awesome time, so now seemingly 75% of everyone I know is going this year. Sweet. The lineup is a little sparse by the looks of things, but I'm sure it'll be a great weekend. It's hard not to have fun at a festival in my experience.

Cracks (Crackity), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 21:42 (seventeen years ago) link

I just can't see that line up as it stands working out on Friday. Damien Rice is on to late (that he's on at all is offensive enough). Compared to last year when the line up was just savage for dancing this year doesn't seem to be offering the same level. I think Hi:Fi and Garden Party removed some of the acts that would've been great like Vitalic.

It'll be fun but for three days? Loadsa baby wipes for sure!

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 20 July 2006 07:04 (seventeen years ago) link

I know this is ironic what with me always reviving this thread but does anyone ever talk about anything else? Everyone is going to this. EVERYONE.

Line up still a bit patchy.

I can't tell if I'm more excited about this or Daft Punk. If only the two could be combined in one huge robotic electric mess!

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Friday, 28 July 2006 09:25 (seventeen years ago) link

I've heard enough about Yo La Tengo being shite live to know that they'll probably be the best thing at it! Just before college starts back up and basically the entirety of LSAD is going. Should be great.

from The ends of your fingers (prosper.strummer.), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 14:40 (seventeen years ago) link

I'll be there, it'll be the first Irish festival I've been at since Feile 96 - crazy times.
And Yo La Tengo will be freakin' awesome, I promise you.

Ruairi Wirewool (Ruairi Wirewool), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 14:52 (seventeen years ago) link

I wrote a big long post for this thread a while back, promising hurling mud at Leviathan and varius other activites but some freakin server error ate it. *grmph*

Major Alfonso (Major Alfonso), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 14:59 (seventeen years ago) link

Please God, I've been good. Will Hot Chip be fun? Will Pet Shop Boys make me happy? I still amn't too keen on the first night though. Bring on Basement Jaxx!

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 15:30 (seventeen years ago) link

I was booored by Hot Chip last time. Totally uninvolving IMO. Maybe they've improved since.

Major Alfonso (Major Alfonso), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 18:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Shit really? They're on my list. At least I know Devendra's gonna rock. Right?

from The ends of your fingers (prosper.strummer.), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 18:43 (seventeen years ago) link

And Sparks too. But only if they do a greatest hits "Now that I own the BBC" followed by "This town ain't big enough for the both of us" set. That'd be cool.

from The ends of your fingers (prosper.strummer.), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 18:49 (seventeen years ago) link

The Frames. What the fuck? They are just terrible. I shall be hopefully somewhere else at the time. David Kitt? Jesus.

Was really excited about Shadow. Then I heard the album. He was boring last time I saw him but I hoped the new stuff would be a bit more active. Maybe he'll have to compensate for not having all those guest stars. Just so long as he doesn't talk...

I should've gone to Garden Party :( Was chatting to someone who went down for the day. Next year baby, next year.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 3 August 2006 08:32 (seventeen years ago) link

Theres no excuses for being disappointed with the line-up, it's the best of the summer season. But yeah, I'll be avoiding The Frames.

Worth mentioning that eery time I've seen Devendra recently, he's pulled up a member of the audience halfway through the gig, and let them play a song of their own. And every time he said 'That was beautiful, man'. What a sweetheart. How come no-one's taken advantage of this yet and busted out Pantera's "Fucking Hostile"? That's what I'd do.

Assuming Shadow can make the new album sound a bit more coherent live, he should be great - does anyone know if he's bringing vocalists with him?

If Sparks do 'Hasta Manana, Monsieur', the weekend will have been worthwhile.
If Pet Shop Boys do any of their first 20 singles, the weekend will have been worthwhile.

Hot Chip were kinda dull last time I saw them, but I really like the new album so I'm giving them a second chance.

A bit bummed out that theres a lot of rubbish Irish bands on, but no Thread Pulls/Cap Pas Cap. Booo!

But y'know: PJ Harvey, dEUS, SpankRock, Mogwai, Massive Attack, New Order, Super Furry Animals, Gang Of Four, Bloc Party, Yo La Tengo, Broken Social Scene, 2 Many DJs, mad Professor, Andrew Weatherall, Semifinallists, Basement Jaxx, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Gnarls Barkley, Laurent Garnier, Rufus Wainwright, Coldcut, Saul Williams, Metro Area.... it's going to be fucking wicked.

Ruairi Wirewool (Ruairi Wirewool), Thursday, 3 August 2006 10:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Metro Area is a real coup, looking forward to that alot.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 3 August 2006 10:36 (seventeen years ago) link

But I *like* whinging Ruari!

Lads, FAP? Or is that just madness at a festival but if they can do it at Glastonbury surely we can manage it in the confines of EP!

Are New Order any good live? Ronan, who are Metro Area?

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 3 August 2006 11:03 (seventeen years ago) link

My internet-speak is woefully amateur. I assume FAP is some sort of meet-up?

New Order can be great live.
Metro Area are NY-based house producers, one of whom is Morgan Geist. And that man is Godlike in the world of dance music production. It's going to be slinky and beautiful.

Ruairi Wirewool (Ruairi Wirewool), Thursday, 3 August 2006 11:27 (seventeen years ago) link

FAP = ILX for Fancy A Pint or in EP case bottle of club orange topped up with vodka!

Oooo I'll go to that so. Glad to hear that about New Order.

Argh! What is with the weather?! Talk here of skipping Friday. I would be sad to miss one or two the acts but if the weather's going to be shit may as well...

(I told you I liked whinging)

Lightweights... little bit of rain never hurt.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 11:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Are you going DV?

It's not the little bit of rain, it's the heavy showers we've had over the past couple of days and lack of dry house to hide in that worries me!

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 12:55 (seventeen years ago) link

I am now officially excited. Was listening to Mercury Rev on the way in and thought of their performance. People, I have wellies, a waterproof tent, a lift and money. This will be fun!

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 09:08 (seventeen years ago) link

Had a brilliant time. Definite highlights were DJ Shadow, PSB and 8Ball (I hope they do really well in future). Shadow had can't remember his name and too wrecked to look it up Grandmaster was savage, great fun for the crowd and they seemed to enjoy it. Dancepig was great! Saw some Des Bishop, usual stuff but he does the accents so well!

Metro Arena were nothing special (sorry) and had to leave early to see Hot Chip who were a bit dissapointing.

Drove back last night, had to skip Basement who sounded savage on the radio. Woke up in my own bed, dry for what felt like the first time in weeks, I enjoyed having something that could flush!

I am traumatised by portaloo, angered by general lack of banklink and no drink in bars after 22:30. I ate well though, better than when I'm at home!

Thoughts anyone? Who was great and what was less than pleasing?

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Monday, 4 September 2006 10:36 (seventeen years ago) link

I couldn't go due to desperate searching for somewhere to live/general bandkruptness/lack of planning/general loserness. I sold my ticket to a friend who was desperate (who wasn't?), for a discount and all. But now I have a home! Which is good. But I missed EP. Which is bad.

Hot Chip who were a bit dissapointing
I ain't surprised. Did you camp? Was it mushy wet?

Major Alfonso (Major Alfonso), Monday, 4 September 2006 19:48 (seventeen years ago) link

I wasn't there.

we should think about a Dublin FAP again... maybe I will be there this time.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 4 September 2006 20:27 (seventeen years ago) link

I was there. It didn't get too muddy, and New Order tore the roof off the sucker.

Palomino (Palomino), Monday, 4 September 2006 22:20 (seventeen years ago) link

I skipped NO to check out 02 zone which was madness and great and stuff. Unbelievably enough I left Massive Attack early, the crowd were too much and I was alone and sober at that point so figured tent would be the best place (I was right)! The lights were incredible though! Gary Numan was fairly savage, he was into the performance. What I enjoyed was that the bands seemed to be having a good time. The YYYs were class. Bloc Party as boring as when I saw them in the Olympia. Missed Gang of Four who I was told are meant to be brilliant live.

I found it pretty manky, not muddy but gad, thanks for wellies etc! Next time: Quiet camping or a beach hut. Fuck this nature bullshit with noisy northerners all taking drugs and playing Drum and bass all night. I must be getting old ;)

DV: I'll revive the thread on ILE or you can. We were thinking Kennedys the last time. Everyone who can make it, come. DV is like our very own Godot!

Major Alfonso: That's rough, sorry. At least you're not homeless.

Does anyone know when they are going to announce some line-up on this thing. Highlights for me last year were Yo La Tengo (ooh, when they did sugarcube, ooh) and minotaur shock, oh and vetiver. Hoping for Animal Collective and Of Montreal, do they do the festival thing?

from The ends of your fingers (prosper.strummer.), Sunday, 21 January 2007 19:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Maybe I should just try and get a ticket for Sonar. Every year its the same "I wish I had gone bullshit".

from The ends of your fingers (prosper.strummer.), Sunday, 21 January 2007 19:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Going to Sonar this year if I can. Might do EP again. The line up announcements usually start in March.

Hola, not going to Sonar. I bought tickets for this instead. I'm not mad keen (especially at price and large crowd again) as lineup so far is a bit patchy. Who else in this bitch is going?

I am! Nobody cares about Electric Picnic on this yoke I think. All the really good stuff I've seen already on their respective tours. Except for Electrelane. Which is very exciting. Ohh.

I know, right?, Sunday, 29 April 2007 20:17 (seventeen years ago) link

Electrelane... lucky bastards.

They are good live, yes? I am very excited just to be near them. Those supercute little dungaree chicks.

So, EP is almost upon us again. Anyone going this year? Unfortunately hardly any of my mates bought tickets this year due to a few being out of the country or not impressed by the lineup. So it's just me, my girlfriend and my best mate. Should still be a great weekend.

Top 5 acts I want to see -

My Bloody Valentine
Sigur Ros
Digitalism
Cut Copy
Digital Mystikz
