Dungen influences

Loving Dungen, as seemingly everyone else does, I was wondering which specific bands I could listen to whose music has clearly influenced dungen or sounds like dungen in general.

I can't think of anything in the same ballpark (it's heavy but still quite cheerful, which is rather unique among the bands that I personally have heard), but I've noticed traces of The Byrds, Black Sabbath, Hawkwind, Blue Cheer, etc. in it.

At Intonation I learned that it's pronounced "Dung-in" ("dung" as in excrement.)

I learned it was dung-in at 'other music' in NYC. I passed it on to my friends who at first thought i was pretentious for pronouncing it correctly but once they got over the coolness of the band name dungen (as pronounced in the english language when referring to a prison cell in midieval times), they correctly pronounce the name now as well. I wouldve bet that at this time the dungen guys would've been pissed off that everyone probably pronounces their name wrong, but when i saw them live they looked like the nicest guys ever so they probably put up with it.

They have that sunny-side-of-psych thing going on that a lot of late 60s bands had but I can't quite place it.

Weird. When I first read the name I thought it was Dung-in but I assumed I was wrong. I mean it's not spelled like Dungeon.

Anyway, in one of the other Dungen threads somebody mentioned Pugh Rogefeldt - Ja, Dä Ä Dä! as being the blueprint for Dungen. I've never heard that album but there was a track from it on the Psych comp that Jaxon YSI'd a while back and holy shit if it didn't sound exactly like Dungen.

Also, the less power-pop-psych-y parts of Dungen - the instrumental bits toward the second half of Ta Det Lugnt - sound a little Soft Machine-esque. I can't imagine liking Dungen and not eventually getting into Soft Machine 1 through 3.

Sweden's Pugh Rogefeldt --- Ja Da a Da from the 70s sounds in some ways like the vibe Dungen try to recreate.

when i saw trad gräs och stenar live, they taught the crowd how to say their name, but in a sweet friendly manner without being condescending. if i remember correctly it's sounds like "trahd grah oh steenar"

Bo Hansson - Sagan Om Ringen (or "Lord of the Rings" in the US) sounds like some of the mellow keyboard based stuff - can't think of the track, but the one that's kinda spooky near the end of the cd...It was first release on the Silence label, & you can still find it cheap on lp.

4 years pass...

finally getting around to listening to the most recent amazing and life on earth albums. two of the best psych records of the year, at least from europe. both kind of remind me of the latest ancestors record. "had to keep walking" is as good as anything dungen's done, and "apart" sounds like dungen in english
