Who am I kidding, I'm no sports fan. I was following State heavily during the Mateen Cleaves days.

"..their stage banter made me want to fucking smash their faces with one of their noise chains."

"What's a noise chain? Is it different than a regular chain?"

"were they iced out, these chains?"

DILLOWAY'S IN NEPAL, DUDE.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 14 April 2005 19:19 (8 years ago) Permalink

haha, looking at the thread title, i wondered whether the person had been to the show last night. however, for me the banter would have to last so much longer. it strikes me as something that could possibly be absolutely ridiculously long. last night's wasn't.

poortheatre, you missed all the best stage banter though! it all came after the end of the set.

"DILLOWAY'S IN NEPAL, DUDE." - Fine, but find me an another illustrative photo of a currently performing member of Wolf Eyes using a "noise chain."

Yngwie AlmsteenMay (sgertz), Thursday, 14 April 2005 19:26 (8 years ago) Permalink

yeah connelly sucks

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 14 April 2005 19:28 (8 years ago) Permalink

Nate was using a "noise chain" last night. doubt you could smash anyone's face in with it though

lemin (lemin), Thursday, 14 April 2005 19:30 (8 years ago) Permalink

Connelly was the only one fist pumping along with all the angry kids. it's pretty funny in retrospect.

lemin (lemin), Thursday, 14 April 2005 19:32 (8 years ago) Permalink

connelly does have enthusiasm, i'll give him that, but he's no DILLOWAY.

hstencil, i should have told you i was going so you could just spit on me in person.

ummm cat power anyone?

haha, when i saw her live, breezy, after all the usual rigamarole, she crawled out into the audience during a song and lay on the floor and smoked a cigarette. i see what you're saying, but i don't mind her for some reason-- maybe because i'm not entirely sure if it's bullshit or not and i'd rather err on the side of, you know, gentleman haha

That Connelly guy was great! He was joking around and what-not without the condescension. Listening to the other two was like being forced to talk to some sardonic hipster at a party, but I couldn't walk away. I wanted to say, "We invited you here because we like you, so you can you not treat us like shit?" It's like that scene in Don't Look Back where Dylan's talking to that reporter/"scientist" and you just want to fucking shake him and say, "Could you just answer his goddamn questions? Does everything you do have to be some exercise in superiority?"

I'll shut up because I'm obviously making too much of this/little sense (Wolf Eyes : Dylan whaa?) and i shouldn't really give a shit and who care if some group fucks around on stage but i thought i'd explain myself.

poortheatre, you missed all the best stage banter though! it all came after the end of the set.

Oh god haha.. Are you on the program board? We've probably met before. I know all those guys/gals.

poortheatre (poortheatre), Friday, 15 April 2005 01:56 (8 years ago) Permalink

Connelly ... he was like Kevin Eubanks without a microphone, except he'd actually talk to say a few words that weren't "ha ha" here and there. the other two were at least saying something funny once in a while.

and poortheatre, I am so not on the program board. I only heard about this on monday from some people handing out flyers at Cantor. If I were on the program board, I would've have a lot more shows in the Spring then these fuckers. although i must say that it would be very funny/interesting regardless if we have met.

lemin (lemin), Friday, 15 April 2005 04:17 (8 years ago) Permalink

At our last show, in front of a sold-out crowd no less (we got a spot opening for Robyn Hitchcock), our singer delivered this bon mot:

"Yeah, so we're from New Brunswick. New Brunswick ... there've been a lot of rapes there lately."

Our bass player (trying in vain to save face for us): "Yeah, there's a lot of crime where I live. Someone just got stabbed around the corner from me."

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 15 April 2005 14:50 (8 years ago) Permalink

Dudes were funny. They did not rock appropriately, though. Connelly contributed useful things to the 7% of the set that had rhythm, and absolutely nothing useful to the quieter jammy parts (which mostly sucked anyway.)

The only time they were worse was in WORCESTER, MA during the OOPS TOUR. But they normally rule, so, you know. And the JOKES were MOSTLY FUNNY. It's like like someone wrote a play about the Hanson list.

yea, i knew steve. he meandered into my room a couple of times and said what's up, but we never really talked that much. i'm still pretty good friends with your old RA, so I was kind of involved with all that. i also know you through a certain ILM poster (rockaction) that also lived on my floor last year and has the same name as a character in the Cosby show and often wears Stooges shirts with the sleeves rolled up (at least, he used to, before the hipsters with their felt blazers got to him). know who i'm talking about? you all used to hang out on the roof. e-mail me if you wanna talk some more or whatever. if you're in music, you probably know friedman and cole, too.

sorry everyone else that's reading this thread :)

7 years pass...

Hard to phrase exactly what I'm talking about here but this is the thread for bands whose image/name/logo as seen on tshirts, posters, etc has taken on a life of its own to the point that you could see someone wearing this band's shirt and you wouldn't even necessarily think the person was a fan of the band. Brought to mind by some reality show douche wearing a Miles Davis tee, but like no one thought Rachel from Friends was a big MC5 fan because she wore the tshirt; High school kids wear AC/DC and Motorhead shirts, but do they actually listen to the band?; the Misfits logo has been ubiquitous for some time...
