Oh who remembers the Mo-dettes?

I remember when NME slagged them off, and said the height of pretention was announcing your song titles on-stage in "bad 6th form french". (Of course, the singer was actually French for real, as a letter in the following weeks issue pointed out).

Saw them once, supporting the Bureau! (Long awaited album to be issued, the Bureau that is!)

Anyway, this was towards the end, but I remember them being tight as buttons, and as enthusuiastic as if it'd been their first tour.

I'd have bought the 'new' album on that evidence, but they split up not long after.

I do.
I was listening to them last night.
My memory can just about stretch to 12 hours.

Me, kinda. Don't remember them from when they were actually about, but after finding White Mice in a 7" cheapo record bin it has become a staple of my DJ sets.

A friend turned me on to them years after they were around, but then when I went back and listened to them without weed in my system, I was not into it.

"bedtime stories" has been coming up a lot on random play. good stuff.

aren't there other mo-dettes threads in the archives?

Heck yeah. I have their album, The Story So Far..., and what I believe are all their 7"s.

Apparently the Mo-Dettes had beef with Dolly Mixture back in the early '80s - slagging each other off in interviews, etc.

(It remains a mystery what happened to the Modettes album I bought on vinyl. I think a vindictive friend threw it out, but he always denied it, and he's no longer alive, so I guess it will remain a permanent mystery.)

3 years pass...

I was listening to the White Mice 7" on my ipod on the way to work this morning!

They're doing Girls at Our Best as well, apparently.

About time they reissued GAOB, the Vinyl Japan CD is pricey nowadays. I did find Pleasure on LP for cheap earlier this year but I'm missing a few of the 7"s.

I totally wanted to do it but dropped the ball yet again. Really great, underrated band, Girls at Our Best. I like Mo-dettes too, but not as much.

The one GAOB 7" I do have is one of my favourite singles ever - Warm Girls/Getting Nowhere Fast
