I'm going to vote for Folger's "The best * part of WA-kin UP! / Is Fohhlger's in your CUP!"

Brilliant.

Although Mennen ("Byyyyy Mennen!) comes in a close for using the by/buy double entendre...

There was an ad that played in my hometown that of course you won't be able to appreciate here that went, "Blaaaaaaaah-BLAH... Blaaaaaaah-BLAH!.. Nissan, Chevrolet, GEEEE-OOO!!" that brought the house down.

You know, a dude in my high school was an actor and he mouthed those words in one of the commercials, or so our biology teacher told the class. He was also a musician, he was one of the Comateens. Unfortunately he came to a bad rock and roll end.

An honorable mention goes to "Sleep country Canada... why buy a mattress anywhere else? *ding*"

BUT the hands down winner (canucks, you know what I'm talking about) has got to be:
Fabricland FABRICLAND!
(yes, americans, you read that correctly, it's the company name, sung once slow, then once fast... and it'll stick in your brain.)

scout (scout), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 06:17 (nineteen years ago) link

Any Texans been hearing the new poptastic Lotto jingles? I think there've been two so far, the most recent goes "Instantly you feel it taking over/ come on take a chance and you'll find yourself dancing"

Whoever's writing these has a good rekkid collection.

Aaron A., Wednesday, 9 March 2005 06:25 (nineteen years ago) link

Further on the Canadian tip, I think the only one more ubiquitous than the Sleep Country jingle is "Ooo-oooh, I'll start with you!" That's for Canadian Tire - and NO, I have absolutely no clue what the fuck that's supposed to mean! (And neither do a coupla co-workers I confer with.)

Oh, howbout this: "In-TEL in-SIDE!" (Lyrics inferred, tho not "actually" sung, of course.)

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 09:54 (nineteen years ago) link

I'd just like to announce that I wrote, recorded and SOLD a jingle today.

I count "Adam's Real Life", "That's Jared", 1970s Broadway musicals, and the Fraggle Rock theme among my main influences.

My dad would not stop talking about Firestone and their "where the rubber meets the road" jingle this weekend, so I went looking for it on youtube and found this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7iD96pN3gs

It seems to be Portuguese or Brazilian, and does not have the same tune. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

That one is way before my time. The only tire jingle I remember is for Goodyear, circa 1982, went something like this:

There's good times 'round the corner
Good times, wherever you are
Goodyear tires and Goodyear service for
more good years in your car

Catchy jingle but I can't find it online. It showed a kid rolling a tire town the sidewalk at the beginning.

But I did find *this*, which somehow I don't think Goodyear really used:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJCxMXNx4vU

Also this one, which doesn't have a jingle, just background music, but I'm posting just for the O_o OMGWTFness of it. Kids, if you want to know why we needed a "women's movement" in the '70s and onward, it's because it was once deemed acceptable by much of society for a well-respected business to run an advert like this one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvsEx_SRJpU

Goodyear. Because women are helpless weaklings, and what will happen if your wife gets a flat and there's NO MAN AROUND????

also, I know it's not a real jingle, but the Tim & Eric "Rolo Tony" jingle is really one of the greatest things ever:

"Rolo Rolo Tony, working on the factory floor/making chocolate Rolos, for the kids to buy at the store/And when he makes it through the day/the children gather round and say/Rolo Tony, Brown Town/Check yourself out at the door/Give us all some Rolos, you know you got to give us some more/of those Rolos"

frogbs, Thursday, 14 June 2012 14:37 (eleven years ago) link

I always liked this jingle because it's catchy as all hell, yet it break all the usual rules of writing catchy jingles - it's musically complex, continuously changing, full of unusual chord changes, and never repeats a melodic phrase even once. It was used from the late '70s into the '00s, dropped for awhile, but revived a few years ago.
