Is this one of the greatest deep house records ever or what?

That vocal!

a favorite of mine...
does anything else they do compare?

Snappy (sexyDancer), Monday, 31 January 2005 18:19 (8 years ago) Permalink

Not that I've heard, though some dudes at the deep house club here are playing some new one called "Nothing Is Impossible". The name makes it sound good, especially if you've heard "Do It Now".

Those kids have such a positive attitude!

Ha ha Ronan I knew this would be you. I love it too.

Are you coming to Berlin?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 31 January 2005 19:32 (8 years ago) Permalink

No I can't Do It Now, I'm afraid.

I want to buy decks (for several years now) and I've decided to Do That Now, so can't afford Berlin sadly! Wish I could do both.

:-( And I don't even have "Do It Now" with me to put me back in a good mood.

There will be other DJ T shows, I hope.

Eskimo III begins thusly

1. Frankie Knuckles-Your Love
2. Luomo-Tessio
3. Dubtribe Soundsystem-Do It Now

Is that the greatest opening sequence to a mix ever or what? LOVE!

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 31 January 2005 23:22 (8 years ago) Permalink

Classic classic classic. Gets me... THERE.

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 00:04 (8 years ago) Permalink

I saw Eskimo III today but it was just far too expensive for me to justify eating into my Europe money to buy it. The whole experience upset me.

Tim they're deleted, buy it (now) or you'll never get the chance again!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 22:08 (8 years ago) Permalink

Please don't say that Ronan. I have run out of time to Try Glasgow More in order to do this.

Actually, personally I love loads of Dubtribe's stuff. They are also AMAZING live.

They're actually a really interesting act, as they got to deep house through a strange circuitous route.

I first came across 'em in '94 at a San Francisco rave and they were playing kind of acidic breaks music. They always had this over-the-top hippy PLUR schtick, but in a really really sincere way. Their names are actually Sunshine and Moonbeam, believe it or not.

Anyway Sunshine would kind of ad-lib lyrics over the top of their stuff which were always basically their philosophy which is a kind of back-to-nature positivity thing.

Then late 90s they started putting out loads of amazingly deep, latin-y percussive tracks, and the ad-libbed lyrics had morphed into really strong singing. There's this one incredible track whose name I can't recall off the top of my head where Sunshine sings in spanish and just launches into it in an incredibly raw fashion.

This will sound really hokey, but they genuinely do create that kind of 'spiritual' vibe live. I last saw 'em in Cargo, about 2 years ago, which is like the worst venue ever, but they blew the roof off the place. Loads of live percussion and keys, real 'band' feel (but not in the lame Groove Armada way) and loads of improvisation and shit.

Amazing, and underappreciated, dance music. The taint of hippie keeps the critics away!

Tracks I like:

"Equitoreal" (that's the one I was on about above)
"Sunshine's theme"
"If you're not coming back to me"
"No Puedo Estar Despierto"

Jacob (Jacob), Thursday, 3 February 2005 15:24 (8 years ago) Permalink

xpost: funny about the hippie tag, cause "Do It Now" has more of a suave, cosmopolitan indie-house feel to it, a la St. Etienne.

Snappy (sexyDancer), Thursday, 3 February 2005 15:31 (8 years ago) Permalink

"Equitoreal" is ace yeah!

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 3 February 2005 18:33 (8 years ago) Permalink

Thirded re "Equitorial" - amazing on the Body & Soul III mix.

Someone told me the Body & Soul IV mix is the best of the lot - can anyone confirm/deny?
