Yeah, I've started a night with both Ciaran and Joel Shaw from Slabs of the Tabernacle up here in Newcastle (PLUG PLUG: Next one on February 10th). Ciaran's a quality DJ, he's got a great feel and good taste.

I was thinking of making a mix that starts with Baby Ford's "Westway" at 120-ish BPM. But then I thought it'd be better if I put the track as the second track and use a track that has more of an intro quality to it, kinda ambient or something. But I can't think of any track that would fit. I already have the next 5 tracks or so in my mind, only the first track troubling me. You guys have any idea? Thanks.

that baby ford track reminds me strongly of "falling up", which would tempt me to start something off of "sound sculptures", you know, like some african-americans talking over some disconnected acoustic loops, preferably sun ra for both.

i just tried it with "in loving memory" and it sounded decent if a little empty going into baby ford

tried it with "summertime is here" and the only route to avoid a nasty key clash was 14 minutes long but it seemed to work in a proof-of-concept sort of way

I just paid for the better soundcloud account and started uploading some of my old mixes up there, where there had only been some rough tracks from a few years ago. I will now be motivated to record a bunch of new mixes.

@post: thank you but those two tracks are more on the "sunny" side of things while the baby ford track is actually "ominous," especially at 122 bpm. not to mention the next two tracks are rather dark and druggy.

@late great: I can't find any theo parrish track titled "in loving memory." are you sure?

i don't think those are the best suggestions, i was just getting at maybe some sort of jazz-loopy detroit beat thing because of the piano loop
