that interview is totally sweet:
Q: Perhaps something to help readers get their heads around it...what does M.A.N.D.Y stand for? Anything special or is it one of those in-label and studio jokes?
A: At the beginning we invented crazy stories about a girl called Mandy, but to be honest the name just came up and we thought it’s better than our real names. It was quite funny at the beginning when club promoters were expecting a hot babe to turn up and instead of two ugly boys.
aw i love them!

So then "Full Body Workout", what's the verdict?
Still taking it in, but first impressions, the Ralph Lawson remix is seriously great, like Voodoo Ray gone Italo.

I was thinking more like instrumental New Order gone Soft Cell as produced by Black Strobe...

But I had no idea the main synth hook from MANDY's "Don't Stop" is sampled from an old Italo song "Check-Out Five" by Naif Orchestra. It was released in '85 on the Fuzz Dance EP, which also contained "Problemes D'Amour."

I think Suck My Deck is very dependent on context, sometimes I find it sounds awesome and sometimes it does nothing for me. I always enjoy Death Disco though - I found it odd how you were saying that it was super-dry and technical etc. (that was what you were saying yeah?) but then I guess I focus more on stuff like the Paul Rutherford track and "TV Night" (one of the most amazing combinations in a DJ mix that i can think of) than say the Sweet Exorcist edit.
Jess did you ever download those Matt Coleridge mixes?

HI JAYMC
I'm loving the new Kramer 12" (gpm 072) though, especially b2, El Pueblo De Bailar. It's got these giant siren/foghorn sounds that would be so great on the right soundsystem.

Booka Shade's "Unhealthy Pleasures": how do they manage to sound so deep and so pop at the same time?

the kramer 12, playing this very second on the link I just put in minimal bobbins, is their best release in ages

Anyone heard M.A.N.D.Y.'s mix-cd for Mixmag? It's labelled as "Ibiza 2007" which is about right - it's very uptempo and fun. It's good but I miss the spacey quality which has characterised the last few mixes I've heard from them.
― Tim F, Thursday, 7 June 2007 21:34 (nineteen years ago)
Yessssss.... This will hopefull make up for the 5th Anniversary SnoozeFest (taken from Resident Advisor):
Swiss DJ and producer Samim has often been part of a couple, first with Michal Ho as Samim & Michal, then later as part of Bearback and Fuckpony with Jay Haze, the latter of which was responsible for last year’s rated longplayer on Get Physical ‘Children of Love’. This year Samim has been stepping into the spotlight alone a little more, with a huge remix of Pier Bucci’s ‘Hay Consuelo’ and big solo gigs in London, Barcelona and Berlin. He’s also techno’s most enthusiastic blogger.
‘Flow’ promises Samim vocal tracks featuring Big Bully (‘Spring Break´), Middle Eastern percussion (‘Black Death´) and even touches of R&B (‘The Lick´ - billed as Timbaland in Berlin in the press notes).
‘Flow’ tracklist
1. Intro 2. Springbreak 3. Blackdeath 4. Heater 5. Ukaka 6. Setup One 7. Zleep 8. Force Feedback 9. The Lick
‘Flow’ by Samim will be released on Get Physical on September 7th, 2007.

― Tim F, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 14:38 (eighteen years ago)
the second half of lazarus's disc is AMAZING, as is the whole of the dj t - functions a lot like heidi's monza mix last year, very hit-heavy and banging
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 14:41 (eighteen years ago)
in a way i feel sorry for the three or four really awesome tracks on the 5 year thing, buried away on this bizarrely terrible compilation
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)
the lazarus mix.....isn't electrohouse gone?? that's what I thought when I saw the tracklist, it looks so SOLID, even more so than DJ T!
― Ronan, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 14:45 (eighteen years ago)
Re the 5th Anniversary Comp - Yeah I feel the same way - it's odd how boring most of the exclusives are! It's like a bad Poker Flat comp.
"the lazarus mix.....isn't electrohouse gone?? that's what I thought when I saw the tracklist, it looks so SOLID, even more so than DJ T!"
Yeah, and thank God to be honest. I spent ages and ages trying to fall in love with Get Lost and ultimately gave up. Although I'm tempted by Jamie Jones' follow-up.
― Tim F, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 14:49 (eighteen years ago)
That Get Lost mix was difficult alright, but those two discs do look a bit boring to me.
― Ronan, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 15:11 (eighteen years ago)
i listen to the CrowwtownRebels vol 01 mix a lot more than the Get Lost it has to be said. never bothered with Jamie J's - and now that Fopp has gone, the chances of seeing it in a shop have gone forever ! (they always had CrowwTownRebels stuff in .. )

I've heard this, it's very good! Bronnt are a Bristol act, kind of John Carpenter-style proto electro. The bloke behind it has done a FACT mixtape which gives a good idea of some of their influences, you can dl it and read an interview about the record here.
