Anyone know anything about this GPM023 "Full Body Workout" a double vinyl apparently??? It says on the website it was released on the 17th.

Mysterious! Exciting!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 22:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I saw something about this and got all short of breath too.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 23:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't it a new compilation? I vaguely remembering reading about it somewhere.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah it's a compilation but vinyl only I think.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I've heard the same thing

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

It just dawned on me that the excellent "Just Us" mixes on the I Don't Know Remixes 12" are by Justus Koehncke.

Feel free to smack me.

Andy K (Andy K), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 00:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Andy where have you been?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha Andy!

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Justus's album is the only reason to get out of bed in January.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Thursday, 25 November 2004 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder are there any plans for a Chelonis R Jones album. Or in fact a Justus album with Chelonis on vocals/lyrics would be incredible.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Thursday, 25 November 2004 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

There is a M.A.N.D.Y. interview here that mentions they are planning on releasing a Chelonis album.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 29 November 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

that'd be amazing!

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 29 November 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

just noticed on the Get Physical site: they will be hosting a night at Fabric on April 16th with DJ T and M.A.N.D.Y. - to be confirmed...

I'm going.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish I could go. I wish stuff like this actually happened in SF. :(

.adam (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

aw dude i'm jealous!

that interview is totally sweet:

Q: Perhaps something to help readers get their heads around it...what does M.A.N.D.Y stand for? Anything special or is it one of those in-label and studio jokes?

A: At the beginning we invented crazy stories about a girl called Mandy, but to be honest the name just came up and we thought it’s better than our real names. It was quite funny at the beginning when club promoters were expecting a hot babe to turn up and instead of two ugly boys.

aw i love them!

geeta (geeta), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I've booked nothing but I am not missing them for the world!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Will this be the event that Ronan and I finally meet at?

Captain GRRRios' Giggletits (Barima), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

three weeks pass...
it could well be dude!

So then "Full Body Workout", what's the verdict?

Still taking it in, but first impressions, the Ralph Lawson remix is seriously great, like Voodoo Ray gone Italo.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

"Mind Games, "Eyes Need Sugar" and "The Dude" also recommended. I'm not so hot on the rest.

JoB (JoB), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 23:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Has it been released? Or leaked?

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Both.

like Voodoo Ray gone Italo

I was thinking more like instrumental New Order gone Soft Cell as produced by Black Strobe...

JoB (JoB), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Ronan, post something else on your blog!!

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 00:08 (twenty-one years ago)

it's still far ahead but i'll come to the Fabric thing fosho

Stevem On X (blueski), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I am going to blog again, starting tonight, new years resolution. was thinking mp3 blog maybe!

I found it on slsk Adam, so it should be ok. That Lawson remix is killing me, played it about 20 times last night!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 08:36 (twenty-one years ago)

So, we all know that DJ T track that samples the main riff from "Hypnotic Tango."

But I had no idea the main synth hook from MANDY's "Don't Stop" is sampled from an old Italo song "Check-Out Five" by Naif Orchestra. It was released in '85 on the Fuzz Dance EP, which also contained "Problemes D'Amour."

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Going out - feel alright
It´s a magical night

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 01:38 (twenty-one years ago)

what's that from Michael?

the DJ T track on Mood Music is really good, the A-Side mainly.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 10:08 (twenty-one years ago)

two months pass...
Fabric last night - it took the piss how good it was. M.A.N.D.Y was all kinds of clicky intricate goodness with catastrophic basslines, Booka Shade live was one of the best live acts I've ever seen in a club, and DJ T played a whole set of stuff that sounded like his own tunes, even tho the only one i recognised was Time Out. the whole place was a mess of limbs and hips and grins. Get Physical indeed. they're back at The End in June, fans!

pete b. (pete b.), Sunday, 17 April 2005 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

there was one fantastic thing he played with a very DJ T-ish, except menacing, bassline, and a voice going 'ecstasy' over and over...what was it?

pete b. (pete b.), Sunday, 17 April 2005 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

What's inspired this particular Damascan conversion strongo?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 03:53 (twenty-one years ago)

i finally heard the get physical mix

strng hlkngtn, Wednesday, 25 May 2005 03:54 (twenty-one years ago)

(i can honestly say that if i heard this plus a clutch of singles, i wouldn't have been so down on 'lectro-house at the end of last year)

strng hlkngtn, Wednesday, 25 May 2005 03:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Were there any specific records that you were basing yr pessimism on at the time? I'd be interested to know...

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 04:13 (twenty-one years ago)

i really didn't (and still don't) like any of the smagghe mixes. the mix disc portion of misch masch also kinda flew right over my head. also, i am a crank.

strng hlkngtn, Wednesday, 25 May 2005 04:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I pretty much agree on Misch Masch actually - though the remixes are great obv.

I think Suck My Deck is very dependent on context, sometimes I find it sounds awesome and sometimes it does nothing for me. I always enjoy Death Disco though - I found it odd how you were saying that it was super-dry and technical etc. (that was what you were saying yeah?) but then I guess I focus more on stuff like the Paul Rutherford track and "TV Night" (one of the most amazing combinations in a DJ mix that i can think of) than say the Sweet Exorcist edit.

Jess did you ever download those Matt Coleridge mixes?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 04:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I still don't like any of Misch Masch. About the only Tiefschwarz I like is "Ghosttrack".

The Smagghe mixes are great!

the black hand, Wednesday, 25 May 2005 04:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Basically, I like anything to do with Black Strobe.

the black hand, Wednesday, 25 May 2005 04:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Adam I'm still confused by your non-love for the Tiefschwarz remixes. Not even the one of Lopazz's "Blood"? Or "Feels Like Love"??

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 04:40 (twenty-one years ago)

oh god yeah. when's he doing a new record, is what I wanna know.

Get the Chelonis without a second thought. It really is amazing. He even has his own thread here: http://www.ilxor.com/ILX/ThreadSelectedControllerServlet?boardid=41&threadid=25696#unread

matt2, Monday, 30 April 2007 15:17 (nineteen years ago)

so the retrospective is disappointing apart from this AMAZING matthew herbert rmx of chelonis's 'i don't know', turns it into this lovely summery bouncing thing on a bed of cut-up vocals. and the lopazz exclusive is pretty good too. there are a couple of other good remixes but they're outweighed by the hot chip/rapture pointlessness.

BUT all is not lost, i am catching up on get physical singles - this ritch & collins one is rather nice, jona's 'evidence' is far better than the boring one he has on the retrospective, and i LOVE booka shade's 'karma car'

lex pretend, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 22:23 (nineteen years ago)

the scuba remix of sebo k. & metro's "transit" is awesome.

groovemaaan, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 22:25 (nineteen years ago)

lex, ysi me that rmx.

jaymc, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 22:27 (nineteen years ago)

hee! disaster dub of dj t's 'lucky bastard' is all ominous and awesome grinding until at 5mins this totally addictive fairground melody comes in

(am off to bed jaymc, maybe tomorrow)

lex pretend, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 22:40 (nineteen years ago)

the 2nd half of the hot chip remix is incredibly grating. 1st half not that great either. the senor coconut take on 'body language' is cute enough - playable only if the entire crowd is familiar with the original. as i mentioned elsewhere, the sideshow jona remix is an interesting sort of beardo-minimal fusion (i suggested 'microcosmic') that mostly works, but loses steam towards the end. the riton vs heidi original is an rather ugly hip-house concoction, which is a shame after the pretty 'vejer'. rapture remix pretty nice too and remains suprisingly minimal, fujiya one pleasant. haven't heard the herbert mix, getting on that now.

jermainetwo, Thursday, 17 May 2007 09:44 (nineteen years ago)

the other rmx i really like is the other chelonis one - lopazz on 'i don't know'. biggest disappointment, in that i was expecting more, is henrik schwarz on 'vertigo' :(

lex pretend, Thursday, 17 May 2007 10:00 (nineteen years ago)

this herbert "no presets" mix seems to be a response to jess's "scale" review - No presets here. It can get exhausting on a theoretical level-- it's only so interesting that a drum kit was crafted out of sampled dinner conversation or the sound of copulating egrets, after all-- but you'll certainly never hear a Herbert tune built around the familiar sound of an 808.

(on first listen the actual rmx is a little messy for me)

jermainetwo, Thursday, 17 May 2007 10:17 (nineteen years ago)

sorry, not "no presets" - "presets only"

jermainetwo, Thursday, 17 May 2007 10:18 (nineteen years ago)

scale is a great record start to finish

a herbert preset only remix of a get physical track by the in-house producers (booka) = CLASSIC

tricky, Thursday, 17 May 2007 21:08 (nineteen years ago)

i haven't gotten to the new tracks yet, but the remixes are all pretty weak. none of them outshine the originals.

HI JAYMC

I'm loving the new Kramer 12" (gpm 072) though, especially b2, El Pueblo De Bailar. It's got these giant siren/foghorn sounds that would be so great on the right soundsystem.

jergïns, Monday, 21 May 2007 08:59 (nineteen years ago)

Booka Shade's "Unhealthy Pleasures": how do they manage to sound so deep and so pop at the same time?

Tim F, Monday, 21 May 2007 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

Ronan, Thursday, 7 June 2007 20:16 (nineteen years ago)

Anyone heard M.A.N.D.Y.'s mix-cd for Mixmag? It's labelled as "Ibiza 2007" which is about right - it's very uptempo and fun. It's good but I miss the spacey quality which has characterised the last few mixes I've heard from them.

Yessssss.... This will hopefull make up for the 5th Anniversary SnoozeFest (taken from Resident Advisor):

Swiss DJ and producer Samim has often been part of a couple, first with Michal Ho as Samim & Michal, then later as part of Bearback and Fuckpony with Jay Haze, the latter of which was responsible for last year’s rated longplayer on Get Physical ‘Children of Love’. This year Samim has been stepping into the spotlight alone a little more, with a huge remix of Pier Bucci’s ‘Hay Consuelo’ and big solo gigs in London, Barcelona and Berlin. He’s also techno’s most enthusiastic blogger.

‘Flow’ promises Samim vocal tracks featuring Big Bully (‘Spring Break´), Middle Eastern percussion (‘Black Death´) and even touches of R&B (‘The Lick´ - billed as Timbaland in Berlin in the press notes).

‘Flow’ tracklist

1. Intro
2. Springbreak
3. Blackdeath
4. Heater
5. Ukaka
6. Setup One
7. Zleep
8. Force Feedback
9. The Lick

‘Flow’ by Samim will be released on Get Physical on September 7th, 2007.

Tim F, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 14:38 (eighteen years ago)

the second half of lazarus's disc is AMAZING, as is the whole of the dj t - functions a lot like heidi's monza mix last year, very hit-heavy and banging

lex pretend, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 14:41 (eighteen years ago)

in a way i feel sorry for the three or four really awesome tracks on the 5 year thing, buried away on this bizarrely terrible compilation

lex pretend, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)

the lazarus mix.....isn't electrohouse gone?? that's what I thought when I saw the tracklist, it looks so SOLID, even more so than DJ T!

Ronan, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 14:45 (eighteen years ago)

Re the 5th Anniversary Comp - Yeah I feel the same way - it's odd how boring most of the exclusives are! It's like a bad Poker Flat comp.

"the lazarus mix.....isn't electrohouse gone?? that's what I thought when I saw the tracklist, it looks so SOLID, even more so than DJ T!"

Yeah, and thank God to be honest. I spent ages and ages trying to fall in love with Get Lost and ultimately gave up. Although I'm tempted by Jamie Jones' follow-up.

Tim F, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 14:49 (eighteen years ago)

That Get Lost mix was difficult alright, but those two discs do look a bit boring to me.

Ronan, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 15:11 (eighteen years ago)

i listen to the CrowwtownRebels vol 01 mix a lot more than the Get Lost it has to be said. never bothered with Jamie J's - and now that Fopp has gone, the chances of seeing it in a shop have gone forever ! (they always had CrowwTownRebels stuff in .. )
