Anyone like him? got an LP this morning -- 'intercommunicazione' is from '67 (cello and piano) and 'presence' from '61 (cello, violin, piano) -- mind-bogglingly paced, strange intersections, uncommunicative on the surface but my attention could/would not waver, sudden piano-detonations. this LP 'rocks' you know.

anyone heard 'die soldaten' (his opera)?

(takes notes because this looks v. good). is this 'modern classical music'? (just to get an idea on where to look for this stuff)

yeah willem -- its post-war classical music, the LP is on deustche gramophon and its second hand -- but these two pieces (plus a few others) are on a CD on the albedo label (which wz issued this year)-- from a quick google search:

ALBCD022: BERND ALOIS ZIMMERMANN - CHAMBER MUSIC: Bernd Alois Zimmermann: Intercommunicazione for cello & piano; Capriccio for piano; Sonata for solo violin; Four short studies for solo cello (Peter Sheppard Skaerved violin, Friedrich Gauwerky cello, Ian Pace piano) Total time: 70.10

7 years pass...

Saw a cracking performance of Zimmermann's Sonata for Cello on Wednesday (perfectly programmed w/Bach), bought back some memories and why I like some of those contemporary chamber works so much...

I never got round to the albedo chamber music CD so I will try and source it.
