According to this MTV article about the Short List prize, written by Alyssa Rashbaum, Devendra Banhart is a "female songstress." I thought Devendra was a man or is that beard fake?

Well, frankly I'd like there to be more stuff like "Autumn's Child" on it -- I admit I'm a complete sucker for that vocal/piano combination and really would love to hear him do more of that.

My reaction to "Autumn's Child" was similar to my reaction to Husker Du's "No Promise Have I Made"--that is, cringey. Though not as bad with Devendra, probably because it wasn't as huge a shift.

For me it was a perfect album ender -- on a note of difference that suggests a new possible path (Chuck Eddy propounded this rule fifteen years back and I've always liked it).

Cripple Crow is maddeningly uneven. Would have made a pretty good 40-minute LP. The low points are just awful, though. Check out "Now that I Know", the title track, and "Dragonflies", then proceed with caution if you like those.
