'i tried' and 'leanin on you' both kill me, 'the g-code' is terrific - is the rest awful or is there another good reason why people didn't go nuts for this?

it is called "war and peace". i haven't heard it yet. have you?

what is the line-up for this album, btw? is it scarface-willie d-bushwick or is someone absent?

even if you haven't heard it, are you excited about there being a geto boys album in 2004?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 16 August 2004 19:53 (8 years ago) Permalink

not excited. scarface has become extremely boring.

splooge (thesplooge), Monday, 16 August 2004 20:00 (8 years ago) Permalink

this is potentially the greatest album of the year. I heard a rumour that Bun B had been asked to join as an honorary member!

CitySlanger, Monday, 16 August 2004 20:21 (8 years ago) Permalink

"War and Peace"? What an Ice Cube ripoff.

Mr. Snrub, Monday, 16 August 2004 20:26 (8 years ago) Permalink

it's to mr. snrub's credit that i can never tell if he's aware of his jokes or not.

Loverly.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 16 August 2004 21:23 (8 years ago) Permalink

just the other night I caught the episode of Martin where he picks a fight w/ Bushwick Bill, that was some quality television.

Joseph Pot (STINKOR™), Monday, 16 August 2004 21:48 (8 years ago) Permalink

anyone have anything to say about the new album?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 16 August 2004 21:57 (8 years ago) Permalink

can't say a thing until I've heard it. didn't really like Scarface's The Fix except for the Jay-Z collab "Guess Who's Back", love that track.

Joseph Pot (STINKOR™), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 03:24 (8 years ago) Permalink

Z-Ro was gonna join but I don't think he ever did.

“We were really feeling the pressure,” says Willie D. “Fans were really wanting a new album from us so I took the initiative to get at everybody one by one. I had to facilitate the whole thing because we hadn’t all been on the same page. I had been in touch with Brad for a minute and we both had been talking about doing a Geto Boys album. He told me that he was with it. Then I reached out to Bushwic and convince him to do it. Then I called Lil J and asked him if he was with it. He said yeah. Once everybody was with it we just got in the studio and knocked it out.”

I predict it will be a really solid below-radar kind of album that gets released in Houston every month. It will be pretty good as long as Scarface doesn't use that annoying ghostly female vocal sample he always uses. Check out Z-Ro "The Life Of Joseph W. McVey" or the Rap-A-Lot comp "Day After Hell Broke Loose" to get an idea of how it might sound, if it's as good as the Z-Ro cd it will be a straight classic.

there was thread awhile back about a new video from this album
New geto boys video

unfortunately the song and video suck.

contribute, Tuesday, 11 January 2005 03:09 (8 years ago) Permalink

I will certainly download it, but there hasn't been a good Geto-related anything (that I've heard) since Gang Starr ft Scarface on "Betrayal".

polyphonic (polyphonic), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 04:16 (8 years ago) Permalink

i liked that scarface/jay-z joint 'guess who's back' from "the fix" album.

contribute, Tuesday, 11 January 2005 04:38 (8 years ago) Permalink

The video gets HEAVY rotation on MTV jams.
It's pretty good.
I gotta get that album.

Best moment in that interview:

"Whatever happened to reading a good book?"

~ Bushwick in that article, on his disdain for modern party rap records.

Chuckling at the Tomkat's Marquee (Ben Boyer), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 00:47 (8 years ago) Permalink

if it ain't been mentioned yet, houston so real has interviews with all 3 geto boys and ready red.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 01:16 (8 years ago) Permalink

Murderdog magazine also has an interview w/ each of them, as well as the head of rap-a-lot records.

so, what does everyone think of "the foundation?"

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Saturday, 26 February 2005 21:23 (8 years ago) Permalink

yeah, "g code" is fucking solid. it's nice to hear scarface sounding like akshen again.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Saturday, 26 February 2005 21:26 (8 years ago) Permalink

i like.

djdee (djdee2005), Sunday, 27 February 2005 09:47 (8 years ago) Permalink

I don't much, really. But I did go back and listen to some old G-Boys shat because of it.

Mr Deeds (Mr Deeds), Sunday, 27 February 2005 20:17 (8 years ago) Permalink

would i be foolish to spend money on this?

i like the griminess and sick humour overload of "we cant be stopped" and the self-titled one. are these qualities present on "the foundation"?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 28 February 2005 00:23 (8 years ago) Permalink

If you like those old ones for those qualities, I would advise not spending money on this one.

love willie d on i tried so much

Faster than a crackhead, can pawn yo' shit
Willie D'll put a foot in you bitch
I sold dope, robbed folks, had to make ends meet
Since 5th grade, I been up in these streets, tryin to get it
Raised by a single mother, two sisters two brothers
I used to think she didn't love us
Cause she beat us so much, plus she came home drunk
But every now and then she'd knock on wood, and say
I tried to do the best that I could - and I believe her
Cause she was treated evil out the box
You can't get what you ain't got
Momma I was young, hittin licks, started helpin you out
'Bout the closest that you came to a man of the house
I was talkin back, walkin through the do' gettin smacked
You used to brag to your friends on how well I rapped
We never really got along but when you took sick
I was at your side 'til you died
I wasn't the best son but I tried
