Inspired by the "Tell me about: Ian Svenonius" thread. Where are they now? Did Steve Kroner just kinda fall into a big black hole in '92? Other than Ian and Tim Green are any of them currently making music these days?

Tim's in The Fucking Champs and numerous other solo electronic projects. Before that Tim was in The Young Ginns.
No idea about the others.

Young Ginns -- any good? Was this with Justin from Unwound?

James Canty played with Ted Leo's band for years, now he's in French Toast with Jerry Busher. Steve Gamboa was the drummer for the Make * Up for years.

ian: did you go to metuchen high school?

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Maria-
Wow! You are really good... How'd you figure that out?

ianinportland, Wednesday, 30 June 2004 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

thats 'cause i went to high school with you - i graduated a couple years later.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

But, but, but... Whatever happened to internet anonymity? How many people out there are named Ian?? Tell me for real what tipped you off. None of this "I went to school with an Ian so therefore this is the same guy" business. I don't buy it... C'mon, spill the beans!

Steven "Bad Dog" Kroner plays electric guitar and exists primarily as a local enigma, and in oral myths and legends of the Appalachias. Some tales have him being raised by hill or jungle fauna, while others depict him as a "mystery milker" who performs friendly farm chores while the community sleeps. The Vikings in the 9th century knew of Steve K as being begotten by the union twixt Snorri Sturlsson and the arch-goddess Freya. Little else is known.

He doesn't write for the SF Chronicle, that's for sure.

because your original post is from ian@y*********.com. i went to school with an ian y********* [aka, you] so i thought id ask. i was expecting you to say "no," honestly.

there is no anonymity on the internet when the world is so small.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess that makes sense then...

ianinportland (ianinportland), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to take this thread to reiterate my urgent desire for Dischord to reissue the Vile Cherubs 12" on CD (feat. Tim Green).

Neb Reyob (Ben Boyer), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

What about Steve Gamboa and Steve Kroner? Anybody got news?

ianinportland (ianinportland), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Google shot this out:

"Steve Gamboa, ABD, Philosophy
Steve has been selected to give a paper at this years annual Hume Society Conference in Tokyo, Japan. August 3, 2004 "Hume and Radicalism". Steve was awarded a generous travel award by the Hume's Society. Congratulations!
Steve is now at work on his dissertation on Hume's account of analogy."

Maybe it's the same guy?

Neb Reyob (Ben Boyer), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 21:55 (twenty-one years ago)

The Young Ginns were ok yeah. Not sure who else was in them.

Rock Bastard, Thursday, 1 July 2004 03:05 (twenty-one years ago)

simon 803 (simon 803), Thursday, 1 July 2004 09:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Gamboa DJs as "Stevie G" these days...a guy I know from DC has seen him play a few nights and says he does a nice line in deep house.

More here.

strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 03:19 (fourteen years ago)

They're better than Ian S.'s current band Felt Letters

curmudgeon, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 13:48 (fourteen years ago)

Definitely - 100% for sure, no question whatsoever - but that said, I think Felt Letters are a hell of a lot of fun (and more interesting than Chain & The Gang, at least musically)!
