pre-illmatic nas

because i got the dj xxx mix of pre-illmatic tracks and blends and i just haven't heard any of these tracks before and i haven't listened to illmatic in a long time and this all sounds so hissy and raw and good. -- the best tracks are the focused and plain nas by himself tracks, all grimy beats but he sounds so young and like other people must hear him on illmatic. always using the same rhyme scheme (i'm not sure if that's the right term), the descending lines, oldschool thing that's really only going to show up on it ain't hard to tell (there are three versions of it ain't hard to tell on here). he's running out of breath almost on everything is real with this amazing swirly beat with an out of place vocal sample and the same "i been looking for this book!" intro as book of rhymes on god's son!

talk about pre-illmatic nas.

it's cool how little bits of illmatic verses slip in. on i'm a villain he does the start of the second verse to new york state of mind but in a really fakey deep voice that makes him sound like scarface.

i haven't heard much, but I still remember hearing Live at the BBQ (I read about it in the Source's singles column) and being blown away....Man he was so great on that....There was a guy called Fatal on that too I think don't remember what happened to him...

Fatal? I thought it was just Nas, Large Pro, and Akinelye on that.

Are these tracks of which you speak part of that Illmatic 10th anniversary thing that's just been released, or something else?

(Excuse my ignorance, please)
