RFI: Pita - Get Out / Gate Lavender Head / Morricone Sample

I read somewhere that the 3rd track on Pita's Get Out album [1999] was a remix of a Morricone piece.

I was just listening to Gate's "3 9.26" off of Lavender Head [1999] and realized it's essentially the same piece/sample with a more blurry/less harsh treatment.

Can anyone point me to the original piece?

Supposed to read "Lavender Head [1998]"...

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 23 April 2004 02:08 (twenty years ago) link

(it's probably a famous soundtrack.)

hi! this is the same song the weredolphin played for us way back when.

I have a Gate double LP called "The Lavender Head 1.1.1.2-2.1.1.2" and about 200 of Mr. Morricone's score-recordings and would very much like to identify it for you (and me), but unfortunately my "Lavender Head" doesn't contain that song! Mine has "The Blurred Tree", "Gasmask", "Mary and Mars" and "Hands".

jazz odysseus, Friday, 23 April 2004 02:46 (twenty years ago) link

This is I believe the 3rd volume of the Lavender Head series. The song title "3 9:26" refers to the Volume and length in min:sec.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 23 April 2004 02:49 (twenty years ago) link

if you listen to the first 60 seconds of the 3rd track on the Pita record, it's essentially the same track with slightly different treatments.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 23 April 2004 02:50 (twenty years ago) link

I wish I could, but I don't know about Pita at all.

jazz odysseus, Friday, 23 April 2004 02:51 (twenty years ago) link

the second cd is where the gate track is from

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 23 April 2004 03:00 (twenty years ago) link

I didn't realize Gate even had anything else out after what I'm guessing now is the first "Lavender Head". It's funny, because I'd just been talking with a friend about his music earlier tonight, and wondered if there was anything more recent.

jazz odysseus, Friday, 23 April 2004 03:06 (twenty years ago) link

morricone's discography is huge too... especially recently... lot's of older soundtracks have been reissued in the last 5 or so years. (each year anywhere from 5-15 records were put out.)

it's hard to search through titles even for anything like "lavender head"

hi

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 23 April 2004 13:22 (twenty years ago) link

Morricone scored 21 films in 1968 alone! Needle in a haystack time, if I could hear it I could help you.

prima fassy (mwah), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:06 (twenty years ago) link

earlier Gate stuff isn't anything like what he's doing now.

hstencil, Friday, 23 April 2004 18:08 (twenty years ago) link

you could post to the dead c list. morley posts there and occasionally answers questions.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Friday, 23 April 2004 18:10 (twenty years ago) link

This Gate CD was released in 1998, not necessarily a new release here.

Thanks YNF.

The first minute of the Pita track sounds like a standard indie rock tune if you reverse it. The choir (synth?) is vaguely Morricone-esque but the acoustic guitar isn't.

Frühlingsj4n (Wintermute), Friday, 30 April 2004 11:33 (twenty years ago) link

I'm on drone on so I'll ask if you don't gte any answers.

I think this is the one gate album I had but have probably sold it. That Pita rec was a keeper tho'.

i have never heard the gate song! i am curious now.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 30 April 2004 11:44 (twenty years ago) link

i am going to go put the pita record on now, actually.

Wait, what acoustic guitar?

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 30 April 2004 12:18 (twenty years ago) link

if you reverse it

^... The beginning sounded like something played backwards so I used Audacity to reverse it. And lo behold - it's a melody played on guitar, a kind of flute, and a choir or synth or whatever.

Frühlingsj4n (Wintermute), Friday, 30 April 2004 12:31 (twenty years ago) link

hmm, could you mp3 that Wintermute?

YNF, I was never granted access to the Dead C yahoo list.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:17 (nineteen years ago) link

I heard the Pita song, and it's bugging the hell out of me because it's backwards, and I can't reverse it in my head - it sounds like something from "Maddalena", but maybe not the arrangement from the film - I can't tell without finding something to flip it around. It's more confusing than I thought it would be. I can probably have an answer for you in a day or so, though.

jazz odysseus (jazz odysseus), Friday, 14 May 2004 03:49 (nineteen years ago) link

Yeah - it's the main theme from "Maddalena".

jazz odysseus (jazz odysseus), Friday, 14 May 2004 10:31 (nineteen years ago) link

well done. thanks!

I remember I was at some show and a dj put this on at the end of the night when everyone was leaving, and all the true freaks who were standing outside ran back in at breakneck speed to I guess (in addition to hearing it) just stand around and talk about the track with one another

Bongo Jongus, Friday, 23 July 2021 18:36 (two years ago) link

I bet Peter was responsible for the John Barry sample in the Fenn O'Berg Theme too. 💔
