8 years pass...

Othar Turner may have passed on, but his relatives in the Rising Star Fife and Drum band are gonna be coming up from Mississippi to perform in Washington DC for free on the mall as part of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival's

Rinzler Memorial Concert (June 30, 6-8 pm)

Cool, saw them do a great set at Jazzfest one year. I've been working my way through the film series Deep Blues: A Musical Pilgrimage to the Crossroads(don't know why it's taken me so long) and last night's segment had a nice little bit of Jessie Mae Hemphill playing with fife and drum musicians.

Wait, sorry, cut/paste error. I watched Deep Blues last night, but prior to that I've been watching the series Martin Scorsese Presents: The Blues: A Musical Journey.
