I always get Built to Spill and Guided by Voices mixed up.

Built by Voices? Guided to Spill?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 18 April 2004 16:44 (9 years ago) Permalink

The fact that I think both bands are mind-crushingly dull doesn't help.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 18 April 2004 16:45 (9 years ago) Permalink

it always takes me a second to remember who is petey pablo and who is pastor troy.

Steely Dan/Steeley Span

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 18 April 2004 16:50 (9 years ago) Permalink

whoops, Steeleye Span

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 18 April 2004 16:50 (9 years ago) Permalink

I used to get New Order and Depechemode mixed up.

Names are very different, but for some reason, I thought they were the same band.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 18 April 2004 16:53 (9 years ago) Permalink

A vast error, Aja. Vast.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 18 April 2004 16:53 (9 years ago) Permalink

Mogwai and Slint.

SOMEONE HAD TO SAY IT.

Leee O'Ironic (Leee), Sunday, 18 April 2004 16:55 (9 years ago) Permalink

There is no way I'm getting Franz Ferdinan (or whatever) and Franz Stahl mixed up.

Franz Stahl is way better!!!

Aja (aja), Sunday, 18 April 2004 16:56 (9 years ago) Permalink

I tend to say Mindless Self Indulgence when I mean Stabbing Westward, go figure.

tessa, Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:07 (9 years ago) Permalink

Once I got Jane's Addiction mixed up with the Shins and my mom yelled at me.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:08 (9 years ago) Permalink

::sigh::

Do the words "Jane's Addiction" and "Shins" sound even remotely similar? This isn't about their music, it's about how similar the respective names are.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:09 (9 years ago) Permalink

The Wedding Present. / The Birthday Party.

It doesn't make any sense to confuse those two, and yet, it does.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:10 (9 years ago) Permalink

i am ashamed to say that i always do a double take before referring to one of either terry or teddy riley

mark p (Mark P), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:10 (9 years ago) Permalink

Actually, it does make sense. Gedge named his band The Wedding Present as he was a fan of the Birthday Party (though you'd never know it from listening to their respective musics).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:11 (9 years ago) Permalink

Gluecifer/Jucifer. I love Jucifer, never heard Gluecifer.

Oh, like getting Killing Heidi and Killing Joke mixed up?

Aja (aja), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:12 (9 years ago) Permalink

What about the Hives and the Vines. I almost did, but not quite

Aja (aja), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:14 (9 years ago) Permalink

I still do.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:14 (9 years ago) Permalink

Hives and Vines. Them too.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:14 (9 years ago) Permalink

I still do.

Wow.

I don't anymore.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:15 (9 years ago) Permalink

Vines, Hives, Vives, Hines....all the same shit. The Hives are a better band, but it's not like they're particularly breaking any new ground or anything.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:19 (9 years ago) Permalink

I continue to confuse Rocket from the Crypt and Rocket from the Tombs.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:19 (9 years ago) Permalink

What if someone got New Found Glory and New Order mixed up?

That would be so sad. I'd laugh at them!!!

I think once I thought Bens Folds Five was Five For Fighting and I thought Five For Fighting were Tears For Fears. I think I've finally got it right though.

Oh, my mom has something from Rocket from the Tombs.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:22 (9 years ago) Permalink

I get Rockets from the Tombs / Crypt confused, too, in a "flipping-through-CDs-and-going-'hey, what's that? / Oh, fuck, it's them again'" kind of way. Sometimes I get Toni and Anthony Braxton confused, but I take it in better spirits.

jazz odysseus, Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:24 (9 years ago) Permalink

I mix up the Detroit Cobras and the Dirtbombs a lot.

Also, the Von Bondies and the Dandy Warhols. It's all the same to me.

stephen morris (stephen morris), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:24 (9 years ago) Permalink

It doesn't help matters when the Thrills insist upon pronouncing their name as the Trills.
Not that matters such as this matter much.

non-u, Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:24 (9 years ago) Permalink

What if someone got New Found Glory and New Order mixed up?

They're not fit to enjoy the benefits of oxygen.

Thrills, Chills and isn't there a band called The Kills too?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:25 (9 years ago) Permalink

I'm a fan of Destroyer, Pig Destroyer, and Destroyer666. Can't say I ever confuse them though.

I do confuse Robert Palmer and Robert Plant when talking about either of them, though, which is dumb.

And I still don't know the difference between Corey Hart and John Waite.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:25 (9 years ago) Permalink

And I still don't know the difference between Corey Hart and John Waite.

Well, Corey wears sunglasses at night.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:26 (9 years ago) Permalink

Rocket from the Crypt ought to be confused at every available opportunity.

non-u, Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:26 (9 years ago) Permalink

Neal Halstead and Neil Hagerty, for some reason.

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Sunday, 18 April 2004 17:26 (9 years ago) Permalink

GBV and MBV, but only in acronym form. Makes for some very confusing posts.

Replacements and Rembrandts, upon a time. I was aghast for a while that the 'Mats had reformed just to make the 'Friends' theme, before I realized my error.

Phil Collins/Peter Gabriel, because they're both overbearing ponces.

There's a band like Six By Seven that's Six From Seven or something, that I get mixed up with.

derrick (derrick), Sunday, 18 April 2004 18:12 (9 years ago) Permalink

I used to mix up Townes Van Zandt and Van Dyke Parks a lot. I mean, not the music, but those triple name things.

And because Pig Destroyer did a track called "Black Dice" every time I see something about Black Dice I have to take a second to remember that they're not Pig Destroyer. If you see what I mean.

I don't think I've ever actually heard Rocket from the Crypt, but I still manage to say the wrong name in conversation.

I've also frequently confused John Cale/John Peel in conversation, and once John Cale and Sterling Morrison, oy.
