Is it worth finding the "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" soundtrack? I just caught part of it - the lawyer-seduction - and "Sweet-Talking Candyman" is great. Is the rest that good?

Yes, it's definitely worth it. All the Carrie Nations songs are classic: "Find It", "Come with the Gentle People", "Look on up at the Bottom", They weren't quite as good as Shocking Blue, but they were up there. I think someone finally issued a non-bootleg version on CD a few years ago.

yeah, i need to find this too. i imagine all the carrie nations' stuff is on them. anyone know if "in the long run" is on there? no, not the eagles' song...

When I saw the movie I was really surprised how great the Carrie Nations were. Much better than Strawberry Alarm Clock (minus the one classic song).

Copies are available through Amazon for ~18.50 used (or like $66 new -WTF?), there's one on EBay for $20, and someone's got a red vinyl edition that I'm going to bid on.

"In the Long Run" is on the bootleg CD I have, which is pretty widely available (it's a German disc, I think, packaged with another soundtrack, the far less-impressive "Groupie Girl") -- I got it at Aron's Records in L.A. for $16.99. Anyways, it's a total absolute classic and a must to search. It's my happening, and it's freaking me out!!!

"In the Long Run" is a really good song. The soundtrack mp3's I have feature a different singer...I forget her name. She has a better voice than the one used in the movie, a bit raspier.

My favourite track isn't on it: the party scene instrumental, supposedly by the Strawberry Alarm Clock. I even contacted the band, who couldn't remember anything about it.

To be honest, I don't really like the album, so if you want to buy a cheap copy, drop me a line.

There's a funny bit on the music doc on the DVD where Dolly Read talks about the singer who dubbed her vocals for the film and how, "...that's really my voice. It's not actually me, but I felt as if I should have been born with that singing voice, and (she) only got it through fate."
