Ever hear fellow Bostonites GangGreen's version of it?
― Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 28 February 2004 08:44 (9 years ago) Permalink
Remember that lengthy instrumental bit sorta towards the near end of the song? Remember how that bit was peppered with melodramatic dialogue in the accompanying music video? I like to recite it, spaced out as close to the real piece was.
"So, practice run late? You know, this little hobby of yours has gone too far. Why can't you for once do something for me?"
"Like what?"
"OH!...."
For that and for about a half billion other reasons, this song is truly, truly classic.

I’m in the dark,I’d like to read his mind but I’m frightened of the things I might find Oh, there must be something he’s thinking of to tear him away when I tell him that I’m falling in love why does he say hush hush keep it down now voices carry I try so hard not to get upset because I know all the trouble I’ll get oh, he tells me tears are something to hide and something to fear and I try so hard to keep it inside so no one can hear hush hush keep it down now voices carry He wants me but only part of the time He wants me if he can keep me in line hush hush keep it down now voices carry hush hush, darling, she might overhear oh, no- voices carry he said shut up he said shut up oh God can’t you keep it down voices carry I wish he would let me talk.
I'm just amused at the idea of Al telling anyone to be quiet. "You're disturbing my fragile sense of silence!"

damn, can't believe a VMA-winning music video from 1985 hasn't held up as a film, RIP

I somehow managed to miss it entirely in the '80s. She's got a parody video out now, which just seems gratuitous.

What About Love is great. Coming Up Close is even better, but I don't even think it was a single.

There's stiff competition elsewhere (though not from the new one I'm afraid) but Welcome Home might be my fave Aimee Mann record overall.
