Exile in Guyville, the poll
"Divorce Song" tied with "Fuck And Run." I blame the lurkers.

Can anyone tell me why the song "Support System" is mixed with the vocals so fucking low? It is more or less an instrumental with her mumbling in the background. And then whistling.

It occurs to me that I may never listen (again) to anything she's done other than Jeremy Engle. Weird.

Wow, I wrote that without knowing about The Body Rocks. Best stuff she's been involved with since her pre-Girly Sound stuff! Have had this on repeat for hours!

(Ok, actually "We're All Big Fans of Glands" is better, but there's no live video.)

One of the biggest musical dead-ends since I don't know what. I wonder sometimes if her tiny grasp on fame will lead people to Urge Overkill, which would be nice. Jeremy Engle is still a pretty good song.

Man, GIS for Liz is pretty much NSFW. Did you she ever do a photo shoot where it didn't look like she was posing for Maxim?

Liz Phair is truly an example of an artist robbed of a career due to her gender. I'm pretty sure that at 50 she's doing just fine, looks great, etc.

duh!!my display name refers to something (that i found) insulting that was said about her
when I wrote about Liz Phair she was just a weird woman in a bar.

what made her weird? she was enthusiastic about her music and wanted to share it with people. ;_;
― weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Tuesday, 18 April 2017 19:52 (seven years ago) link
In context it sounds like a lazy, slightly more specific way to say "random person".
― Evan, Tuesday, 18 April 2017 19:56 (seven years ago) link
but instead the writer chose to call her a weird womanit was a choiceHer talk was something: fast, slightly nutty, kind of winning. There was a lot of TMI, incessant and creative profanity, combative observations on the music scene and more. Some of her opinions about music cracked me up, particularly what she said about her tape. It was, she said, “a song-by-song refutation of ‘Exile on Main Street.’”
“Mm-hmm,” I thought, and put the tape in my coat pocket.
MMHMM, I thoughtwhatever dood
― weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Tuesday, 18 April 2017 20:00 (seven years ago) link
it's a tiny banal example, but worth noting because he didn't choose to write "random person" -- to him, she was a weird woman in a bar who deserved a dismissive "mmhmm" even though she was witty, funny, smart, and talented

La Lechera I hear you.
I guess when I obliviously skim read that one part I see a guy who is skeptical of the hypothetical concept of “a song-by-song refutation of ‘Exile on Main Street.” But again I am a bit oblivious, so I'll go back and read the whole thing with what you're saying in mind.

She's a grown up, and presumably doing just fine. She was terrible live, which probably hurt her career. I think Barbara Manning (who's also had a 50th birthday, but didn't get an ILM shout-out) talked at some points about the looks thing. It is what it is. I like some Liz Phair songs. I like more Barbara Manning songs. I wish them both the best.

She was horrible live. There's no need to lie about that. Had a lot of good songs on album, used her looks for what they were, never really knew what to do in front of an audience. Revisionist history isn't helpful.
