Sheep On Drugs are STILL going. An assortment of my gothically inclined chums went to see them earlier this year. General consensus was k-rub on a big rub stick.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 12 December 2003 15:26 (9 years ago) Permalink

the BEST kind!!!!!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 12 December 2003 15:27 (9 years ago) Permalink

I can only imagine the delights to be found within QX1's "Inject Me Love".

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 12 December 2003 15:29 (9 years ago) Permalink

I will happily describe any track people are curious about. For example:

QX1 - "Inject Me Love"

A mid-tempo kickdrum thump rolls along underneath the world's sexiest hi-hat, "ladies throw your panties on the floor" synth chords roll on while a male voice duotones Crystal Waters' most famous catchphrase. Meanwhile, Barry White's little brother begs his dealer for another hit in a dingy, leaky backroom. Surprisingly sexy and creepy for early 90s chillout music.

Exposure - "Peak Experience"
80 AUM - "Standing On Top"

hahaha in UK "Rave On" was a title typically used for indie-dance crossover compilations circa 1990-91

zebedee (zebedee), Friday, 12 December 2003 17:46 (9 years ago) Permalink

The best thing is that I bought this in Germany!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 13 December 2003 05:22 (9 years ago) Permalink

It looks fucking great. Reminds me to pick up that £3 copy of the original 1989 Deep Heat compilation I saw in a Mile End tat shop yesterday - Digital Underground, Technotronic, loads of great shit.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Saturday, 13 December 2003 19:16 (9 years ago) Permalink

Don't you find that Technotronic has certain flaws?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 13 December 2003 20:15 (9 years ago) Permalink

I think you'll find that Technotronic has certain floors.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Saturday, 13 December 2003 22:37 (9 years ago) Permalink

Surely this combination should indeed be shared through various channels, yes...

1 year passes...
I'm reviving this because I want to describe more of these songs to people.

Dan,

I have head of this Stevie Rave On, but all I know is he played the guitar.

Please describe.

Thanks

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Friday, 5 August 2005 17:25 (7 years ago) Permalink

Stevie Rave On - "While My Guitar Gently Bludgeons A Baby"

You wouldn't expect such a duclet guitar sound ona song with such a brutal name but Stevie is nothing if not filled with surprises. Lilting hummingbird chirps drift lazily over a soothing bass-drum-piano combo as The Legend whispers sweet dismemberment nothings in your ear. Perhaps the most memorable segment is the free jazz breakdown on the second bridge, culminating in a stirring re-imagining of Lee Greenwood's "Proud To Be An American" overdubbed with what sounds suspicciously like a madman stuffing toddlers into a mulcher. A must-have for every true American patriot.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 5 August 2005 17:31 (7 years ago) Permalink

What? No breakbeats?

At least Eric Clapon did that "X-Sample" thing.

Love,
The Clapper

Can anyone point me to a good comprehensive/encompassing rave mix? Something like this but preferably more breakbeat hardcore.

formerly EDB (ed.b), Thursday, 30 August 2012 11:07 (8 months ago) Permalink

no because

1) there is mad rare stuff on there

2) they are mixing things which weren't normally mixed at the time, like tronikhouse with sl2 or whatever

the late great, Thursday, 30 August 2012 11:24 (8 months ago) Permalink

they are mixing up belgian-oriented rave with british early hardcore, which you don;t really find on comps

also 105 trakcs! that is like 10 comps.

anyway i like low price music's best of rave 4cd set

deep

http://www.discogs.com/Various-Best-Of-Rave/release/1025500

deeper (but also dodgier)

http://www.discogs.com/Various-Best-Of-Rave-2/release/1314061

also quite deep but not so many rare tracks, def more of a hardcore vibe

http://www.discogs.com/Various-Best-Of-Hardcore/release/1316204

DEEPEST (but only the first disc is any good)

the late great, Thursday, 30 August 2012 11:28 (8 months ago) Permalink

By "like this2 I just meant loads of early 90s rave tracks. In any case I'm looking for some kind of definitive canon-spanning mix of stuf in the vein of 2 bad mice, kicks like a mule, prodigy, etc.

formerly EDB (ed.b), Thursday, 30 August 2012 11:48 (8 months ago) Permalink

k i think the first comps got you covered

the rave and hardcore comps on this label are good too

http://www.discogs.com/label/Touchdown+Records

not mixed though

maybe this one? not much in the way of hardcore

http://www.discogs.com/Various-Rave-Anthems/release/106691

disc two is decent

http://www.discogs.com/Various-Back-To-The-Old-Skool-2/release/33793

see it's hard to find stuff that mixes 2 bad mice and prodigy even

Tim F, Thursday, 30 August 2012 12:30 (8 months ago) Permalink

The above isn't all canonical but I like the way it spans both gooey stuff like Rozalla and Ultra Nate and your more rrrrushing material like Kicks Like A Mule, Altern-8, Shut Up & Dance etc.

Tim F, Thursday, 30 August 2012 12:32 (8 months ago) Permalink

I just wish I could get a copy of my trusty Rave Generation 2 double tape that I had when I was a young teen (and for a while terrified of playing out loud in case my parents thought I was on drugs(!))
