Beautifully Sloppy

Name bands or artists that match this description: polished,
quality vocals and beautiful songwriting married to sloppy, indifferent instrumental work. Major-label and independent
releases are fine, but not self-released (like,
available only at the artists site) records or demos. To simplify things, let's discard any overtly experimental or primitivistic
acts; they're not TRYING to sound raw, they're just indifferent
musicians and they can't afford (or don't want) professional
help.
Finally, I'm looking for work that utilizes a variety of tempos.

but of course even their sloppiness at its best has a drive and purpose to it, the guitar work for example. you can tell this is true because the exceptions are really obvious.

Also, while not nearly "polished, quality vocals", the first, er, second band that came to mind at the phrase "beautifully sloppy" = Gang of Four.

Aye, I was going to pick any of the old Lookout bands. I'll have The Lookouts themselves, instead.

Definitely not precision, but they could raise a ruckus.

Hehe dude, 'beautiful'? Am I thinking of the same Flipper here?
