....anyone? ....anyone? ...anyone?

jed (jed_e_3), Monday, 27 October 2003 20:11 (9 years ago) Permalink

I was wondering the exact thing recently. My copy of his book is pretty dogeared. Think he's just avoiding the sophomore curse and putting off writing a new cosmic tome?

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Monday, 27 October 2003 20:25 (9 years ago) Permalink

He was on a not v. gd documentary abt 'the Matrix' on C5 last night.

I have it on good authority that he's currently having a light snack.

Kodwo does a LOT of stuff on the academic/gallery circuit so wherever there's a contemporary art space with a music programme he's gonna pop up. He did something for Sonar 2002, for example.

Most likely he will be at the art opening I am attending this evening.

he's jizzing himself over a genre developing which takes its basis as an explicit reading of his book.

i still have to pick up that book. been meaning to for well over a year now, too. one of those things i pick up and drink in as much as i can manage in the bookstore, and then have to put it down because i find i've wandered in without money again. :)

both! yes!

jed (jed_e_3), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 21:44 (9 years ago) Permalink

he's jizzing himself over a genre developing which takes its basis as an explicit reading of his book

this has got to be the music journo diss of the year, though KE is hardly alone (or exemplary) in his guilt

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 21:46 (9 years ago) Permalink

it's not really a diss! it's just always struck me that broken beat is like the "end result" of the basic thesis (if there is such a thing) of more brilliant than the sun. and the last few things i've read from kodwo have all been basically about b.b. or neo-downtempo or what have you.

obv i've got a lot of love for mr. eshun.

mohammed abba (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 28 October 2003 22:22 (9 years ago) Permalink

hmmm, he just popped up on channel 4 sitting in front of his i-book bitching about mariah carey. he is a man of many brows but definitely funniest when aiming for the low one.

on a related note, anyone know what his brother is up to?

stirmonster, Wednesday, 29 October 2003 00:15 (9 years ago) Permalink

Is that his brother who often appears on Newsnight Review?

David Gunnip (David Gunnip), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 11:51 (9 years ago) Permalink

christian marclay is grebt. saw the white cube thingy and his improvising is wonderful.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 11:55 (9 years ago) Permalink

he was on some mariah carey documentary last night too

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 12:57 (9 years ago) Permalink

jess, um, yeah - you're sort of right in a very round about way (give or take the perfunctory snarkiness). kodwo's an absolute sweetheart of a guy and i like the fact that he's not scared to enjoy things that are a little bit jazzy (the horror! the shock! writer admits to NOT hating rhodes keyboards!). some people could really learn a thing or two by reading him, getting over their highfalutin selves.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Wednesday, 29 October 2003 13:18 (9 years ago) Permalink

so why doesn't he have a blog eh

mentalist (mentalist), Thursday, 30 October 2003 03:26 (9 years ago) Permalink

Just got Kodwo's(I can be casual and call him that because he's one of my semi-regular customers in the shop I work at) new one on Dan Graham's 'Rock My Religion' out of the library...should probably watch the Graham piece before reading a book on it, right?
