Hey check out Julian Cope's 'Head On', a memoir of the early '80s post-punk scene in Liverpool. He's a plank, but he's a self-aware plank. What makes it really interesting is it's a mix of voyeuristic Rock Valhalla-type tall tales and well-reasoned discourse on the nature of rock performance. Unlike that rubbish Motley Crue book, which is just a list of drugs taken/Hollywood actresses shagged. Still not sure about Cope's music, mind......
