liquid liquid are playing london on july 11th and 12th (i think at the garage) and at optimo in glasgow on the 13th.

i guess this is kind of spam as i'm putting on the glasgow show but as i doubt any ilm'ers will be coming to glasgow and as it will certainly sell out, it's not really.

whatever, if you do love music i implore you to go and see them (it will be your only chance, ever). their show in new york in march is in the top 3 best gigs i have seen in my life.

yay! congrats on putting on the show, stirry. Wish I could make it.

I keep hearing rumours that their stuff is going to be re-released again (as it was by since-vanished Grand Royal a few years back). Anyone else hear this?

I'll be at the Glasgow one. (How much?)

ya big spammer.
hehe

£12 i'm afraid.

apparently the 12"s will be re released by a certain cool new york record label. there will also be a box to put them in (a great idea - i love my foetus and farben boxes).

I saw at least one (non-legit?) Liquid Liquid 12" represses the other day in 'Universal Sounds' in Soho. The UK Mo'Wax versh of the Grand Royale CD comp is also out of print, but it used to be fairly common 2nd hand in London.

I'll prob. go to the London show - after seeing Mission of Burma, I'm not totally against 'reunion'/revival shows any more - but I hate the Garage in Islington, what a fuckin' toilet

Andrew L (Andrew L), Saturday, 21 June 2003 20:46 (twenty years ago) link

the re presses were bootlegs by a certain well known london geezer.

I'm not trying to pull the rug out from under your spam (what a strange and hideous mental image that is), but I saw Liquid Liquid at the Movement festival in Detroit, and found their rubber mallet pitter-patter to be tedious, tedious, tedious...

What was it that so impressed you about their New York show?

EC, Saturday, 21 June 2003 22:00 (twenty years ago) link

EC, if you did not like that gig you are fucking up in a tremendous way.

It was the best gig in Detroit since Kraftwerk at the State Theatre in 1998.

In all seriousness UK ILM’ers, make it a point to be at these gigs because their set in Detroit was about 10 times better than their records.

I like their records fine, but the show failed to hold my interest. I can only take so many flurries of superballs on bongo heads.

I'm aware that mine is the minority opinion, though. Everyone else packed into that little concrete cave under Hart Plaza seemed to be ecstatic.

Replace the toy mallets with a cowbell, and you'll have my assessment of the equally disappointing ESG show.

what impressed me most about the nyc show, amazing music notwithstanding, was the pure joyfulness of it all. the band looked fit to burst with happiness, the audience was going bonkers, everyone was grinning like they'd just won the lotto... i've never been to a show before or since where there was such love in the room. i know, i sound like a hippie. so be it.
see you in glasgow, twitch!

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 22 June 2003 00:33 (twenty years ago) link

Pat yourself on the back Lauren, because you completely nailed exactly why that Liquid Liquid gig in Detroit was so great.

Mike Taylor (mjt), Sunday, 22 June 2003 00:38 (twenty years ago) link

Once, I was dragged along to a Pentecostal worship service.

The preacher was an amazing showman, and the music was fascinating (in an awful sort of a way), but I did not get the spirit. The more the people around me danced and shouted and waved their arms, the farther removed I felt from the whole thing.

I felt the same way at the Liquid Liquid show. I'm much more of a devout believer in minimalist funk than I am in Pentecostal Christianity, but that just made it all the more uncomfortable.

So, stodgy bastards like me should avoid the Glasgow show. The rest of you are in for a treat. Amen.

goddamn if I wasn't gonna be on tour in the West Coast, I'd totally fly over to Glasgow for this.

three weeks pass...
stirmonster, I just saw the London show. They gave it all, and everyone loved it.

this is like the optimal band to play while writing
