RFI: pre-"Rhinestone Cowboy" Glen Campbell

Anyone else here a fan of the Razor & Tie "Swing West" compilations? I got hepped to these a few years ago by a friend enamored with the gunslinging guitar work of Speedy West and Jimmy Bryant (whose work I heartily recommend as well).

Anyway, on the "Bakersfield" volume of these comps, there is a 1963 instrumental from Glen Campbell called "12-String Special" that is really nice, sort of a choogling bar-room tune with a bit of a hoedown feel to it. I'm curious to see if his albums from around this period are in a similar vein, and/or if his albums up to his commercial breakthrough ('73? or so) are any good.

er, it's from 1964, actually, which was around the time he toured with the Beach Boys. more info here.

nine years pass...

So it turns out he sang the lead vocal on "My World Fell Down" by Sagittarius. Who knew? Doesn't sound much like him, but I suppose he was singing to order.

I was listening to the first disc of teh Bob Stanley compiled 2cd a couple of weeks ago. Aftreading Bob Stanley mention it as aboutthe first compilation he did commercially.
Some beautiful stuff on there.
& I assume the guitar is going to be him.
