Just flicking through the ads in Terrorizer magazine makes me laugh - all these names like Agarophobic Nosebleed and Cocknoose!

Perhaps this thread could also be devoted to 'most illegible black metal band logo' as well!

Watching a docu last night, I realised what a great heavy metal logo the Al Jazeera logo would make! I mean, think about it! All the Arabic potentialities... all you really need for a good death metal scene is rebellion against a strict and repressive religion... surely Islam would be just as good as Christianity?

I don't think the weather is bad enough to justify burning down mosques in the Arabic world. I think it is going to have to snow a lot more in Iran before the death metal truly takes hold.

all the death metal band names are so ridiculous, they border-- no, they go well within the realm of-- self-parody.

Ex.
Cannibal Corpse
Entombed
Morbid Angel
Deicide

I think Meshuggah is such an endlessly great name for a band like that.

"Metallica" has to be the silliest name. I mean, sheesh.

Well, at the risk of being a dork, I vote for my Faustcoven logo:

Of course, the REAL logo is a rather typical black metal thing, heh.

Metal, and particularly grindcore, is chockful of ridiculous bandnames of course, but the funniest, to me, are the ones that don't TRY to be ridiculous and goofy (ie not "Agoraphobic Nosebleed" or "Bathtub Shitter" but damn... "The sins of thy beloved", My Dying Bride, and Graveland have all made me laugh out loud at one point or another, though I actually like the latter two bands a great deal.

Then there's Bolt Thrower. Naming yourself after a Warhammer thingy is just WLØGH; but when you write songs like "World eater" I guess you'd be able to get away with any bandname you'd like... Except Metalium.

Oh yeah, and Vomiting Corpses! Fucking hell, they actually seem to be want to be taken as a serious brutal death metal band, haha. Vomiting Corpses!
Well, maybe there was some humor in there, one of the songs DID have slapbass.

Hmm, a metal bandname game would probably be quite easy to make:
Vomiting Corpses, Rotting Corpse, Rotting Christ, Christ Agony, Crucible Of Agony.... uhhh. Crap!

Hmmm... Suddenly my made-up band name Vigilante Shipbuilders doesn't seem so 'unique'.

Old Fart!!! (oldfart_sd), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 11:25 (9 years ago) Permalink

my friends brother band was called Unbounded Terror.
and some other friends (fortunately grown up now) had a band called Inertial Mass.

Øystein has a point about inadvertent humour creeping into names: see also Type O Negative

"Altaria"
It looks like an advert for some gothic boy band from the year 2035!
Either that or a band that will, in the future, fill Tangerine Dreams Niche the same way Phish "succeeded" the Grateful Dead.

STF - Sharon Tate's Foetus - their logo was casper the friendly ghost with a swastika carved in his forehead, charlie manson style... pretty decent mentors/meatmen offensiveness r us riff rock.

This one is all time. They've since changed it to be more legible, but this version is so lol.

Oh, it supposedly says Waking the Cadaver in there somewhere. These guys are terrible, btw.
