1. Runaways
2. Love at First Sight
3. Travels in Nihilon - A high school obsession! I found a notebook from junior year history & its lyrics showed up more than the actual history notes.
4. Earn Enough For Us - I love that Skylarking has two of the best songs ever about weddings, right back to back. But this is the better of the two. (See also "Love on a Farmboy's Wages")
5. This World Over - Made me cry on one of those tender days...
6. Life Begins at the Hop - That's when we push aside the coffee table and have a lille dance party.
7. Love on a Farmboy's Wages
8. Blue Overall - Partride's vocals are raw and terrific.
9. Generals and Majors - I figured this out on the geetar & that immediately endears me to any song. But it's wonderful to listen to.
10. Omnibus - Great horns, and these guys did euphemisms better than most anyone, as exemplified here.

THE song in the car this weekend: both kids loved it. Makes me v. mad when bootlegologists snap on the original lyric, one of the best parenthood songs ever written.

Geir, do you own nothing of theirs prior to Skylarking? If not, yer missin' out.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 28 April 2003 22:44 (twenty years ago) link

The variety of guitar attack throughout Drums and Wires still amazes me today. Any ten from that will suit me fine

SplendidMullet (iamamonkey), Monday, 28 April 2003 23:14 (twenty years ago) link

Geir, do you own nothing of theirs prior to Skylarking?

Yes, all of it (and some "Mummer" tracks are in my 11-20). However, they weren't quite as brilliant then as they were in 86-92.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 28 April 2003 23:15 (twenty years ago) link

Not to derail the thread or anything, but Does Andy (or someone on mic) say "Fuck..." in the middle "Great Fire" (right after the line, "I've been in love before, but it's never been as hot as this")?

Or am I imagining/mishearing?
