Eminem Album Titles, what's next?

from pretentious titles thread:
"There's also Eminem using a different one of his names for each album (oh, that's a concept... right.) "

So now that he's done Slim Shady, Marshall Mathers and Eminem, what's left? Does he need to invent a new persona? Does he need to come up with a whole new concept? Maybe he'll callit The Rabbit Hour?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:47 (twenty-three years ago)

The Ill-Judged Complaint

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Horace who's your favourite band?

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:48 (twenty-three years ago)

The Enough About Me, What Do Others Think About Me LP

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:49 (twenty-three years ago)

re: thread title, "The Ned Raggett DVD" is my guess.

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, see, that I would buy. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Mark P: I'm partial to: Morphine, Royal Trux, White Hassle, the Kinks a lot lately. So what?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Haha Ned but as proven on ILE, you'll buy ANY DVD...

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Not true. I have no interest in buying I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:51 (twenty-three years ago)

"new persona"? He's finished and he knows it. He's ridden all the controversy to mainstream acceptance - and now he has no one left to offend and thus, no one left to appeal to. He's gonna need more than another nickname (calling them "personas" is a gross overstatement) to salvage his career.

That Grammy performance of Lose Yourself was totally sad and lifeless. Worst guitar part EVAH too.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd like to see Eminem become the Kristofferson for a new generation. Y'know, still command respect as a musician/composer, but generally dissipate himself in Burt Reynolds buddy movies.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:53 (twenty-three years ago)

He could adopt a terrorist persona, that'd still rile up the plebes. Maybe The Osama Show or The Saddam Show?

hstencil, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes I agree Eminem will have to work hard to salvage that career which lies in ruins all around him!!

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Mark P: I'm partial to: Morphine, Royal Trux, White Hassle, the Kinks a lot lately. So what?

Just seeing if there was anyone that I was willing to be equally as condescending about.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Shakey who's your favourite band?

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I wasn't even being condescending in this question...I mean, it's a fairly logistical problem, no? No value judgment was attached.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:55 (twenty-three years ago)

"favorite band"? As in, "of all time"? I can't make that kind of pronouncement, I change too much.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 17:58 (twenty-three years ago)

"life begins at 30"

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:04 (twenty-three years ago)

(it was kinda funny before i saw it posted)

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:05 (twenty-three years ago)

The Haley's Papa Ordeal?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Is this what rockists mean when they say "No really - I like rap"?

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:07 (twenty-three years ago)

haha sorry "rap music"

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:07 (twenty-three years ago)

you're confusing me, Mark. Would you like me to list a cross-section of my record collection or something...?

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Mark P has thin skin, like an onion.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:09 (twenty-three years ago)

he could call the next album American Zero now that he's run out of names

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:12 (twenty-three years ago)

oops's first suggestion is my favourite: em shd totally go with that!!

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:12 (twenty-three years ago)

arg

is "i am not being condescending" as sincerely insincere as when actual rockists say "no really, i like rap music i do"

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:14 (twenty-three years ago)

well, what about my question seems condescending to you, aside from my signature on it?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:16 (twenty-three years ago)

So now that he's done Slim Shady, Marshall Mathers and Eminem, what's left? Does he need to invent a new persona?

Wow, hypocracy-in-nickalicious revealed!

I dislike Em's "different persona" formula with a passion (mostly for the lack-of-anything-different-from-one-persona-to-the-next), but am also a GIGANTIC fan of the Kool Keith persona-hopping.

Nickalicious in a finding-myself-to-be-a-hypocrite SHOCKAH!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:16 (twenty-three years ago)

(horace to be fair my reaction is probably coloured by previous posts of yours, so i'm reading into it a bit, but basically)

he is contrived -> it is a formula -> let's decode it

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:19 (twenty-three years ago)

was I being condescending? Do you actually think I don't like rap? Am I not allowed to like rap and maintain a vague dislike of Eminem?

Keith is a million times better at the persona-hopping than Eminem. He *does* actually develop characters with different POVs/habits/defining characteristics.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:19 (twenty-three years ago)

guys i never suggested that either of you don't like rap.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, just because I think his music's poop, doesn't mean I'm not slightly interested in his overall cultural schmizoo. He's like Madonna in that way, I guess. Only I hope he never puts out a book where he gets naked with Vanilla Ice. Or at least I hope I never look at that book.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Em is actually an enigma to me as possibly the ONLY musician whose personality/self-identity get in the way of my appreciation of their work. As though, if not for his self-focus in nearly all of his material, I might actually really like his stuff (as "Lose Yourself" seems to be evidence towards).

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm confused by yr analysis - is there *anything* to his music beyond his personality (and its kinda hamfisted manipulation)? Don't say Dre's beats.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:40 (twenty-three years ago)

His flow.

(I'll take "answers most likely to annoy" for $500.)

bnw (bnw), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:44 (twenty-three years ago)

dude, they don't have any $500 questions anymore

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I think his next album should be called Diamond Dogs, or maybe Rock And Roll Animal.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, you gotta give props to the Original (W)rapper.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:47 (twenty-three years ago)

"Eminem's Greatest Hits... And More"

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:49 (twenty-three years ago)

So the last remaining demo that isn't glowing with Em luv -- maybe the Amish? Thus, Eminem: Hoarse & Buggin'

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:55 (twenty-three years ago)

How about he makes his own version of the Frogs' It's Only Right and Natural to piss off the gay demo?

hstencil, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Uh okay I am silly.

hstencil, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 18:59 (twenty-three years ago)

That's a good name for his album:
Eminem--"Uh Okay I am Silly"

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 19:02 (twenty-three years ago)

So now that he's done Slim Shady, Marshall Mathers and Eminem, what's left? Does he need to invent a new persona? Does he need to come up with a whole new concept? Maybe he'll callit The Rabbit Hour?
Eminem The Overrated Creep Cracka LP

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 19:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 19:48 (twenty-three years ago)

esquire1983 (esquire1983), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:18 (twenty-three years ago)

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:51 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, black like Clarence Thomas

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:59 (twenty-three years ago)

horace do you get anything?

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:06 (twenty-three years ago)

no. not if I can help it. and if I do get something, I go to the doctor for a shot of penicillin.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:08 (twenty-three years ago)

consider this thread a five year bill of clean health.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:09 (twenty-three years ago)

My good friend and occasional ILM poster Theodore Fogelsanger once suggested the next one be called "The Ol' Whinypants LP".

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Possible new Eminem personas -

1. Milk Woman - Basically a huge milk bottle costume with fake breasts attatched crudely with cellotape
2. Slime Shady - Modelled on the Swamp Thing, lots of swearing
3. Albut Gerpus (Man of Riddles) - 18th Century Russian Puzzlesmith
4. Manthrax - Terrorist hero. The idea for this character has been kicking around AAD for a while.
5. Lord of the Blings - Em blacks himself up and loses all his friends in a torrade of unexpected racist abuse
6. Reverend Hotrod - Pastoral English paedophile complete with monocle.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 22:54 (twenty-three years ago)

If that was the Reverend HORTON Hotrod, Then I'd buy that record.
