it's finally dropping today, like a year behind schedule. all you suckers need to go out and cop it and post about it before I pick it up on the way home from work tonight.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:46 (twenty-one years ago) link

you people make me sad...c'mon, at least talk about What We Do, or Roc the Mic, or SOMETHING. i'll be back tonight with some thoughts on the LP, i want you all to do some homework before then.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:17 (twenty-one years ago) link

"what we do" rocks! kanye produced, right?

S>C>, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 22:03 (twenty-one years ago) link

nah, Just Blaze did that one. in fact he did almost the whole thing. a couple Kanye tracks ("Show Go On" w/ Twista's hot), couple other folks. i'm realizing now that every beat I've heard by Bink is fire, I'm gonna have to keep an eye on him. but Blaze came pretty hard too.

the track w/ Peedi Crakk, "Flipside", is hot but i've seen it elsewhere called "Cactus Juice", which is a way better title. "On My Own" has a nice Midnight Marauders sample and Nelly manages to not really make much of an impression.

for some reason, "Line Em Up" is a bonus track at the end of the album...i know it's been all over mixtapes, but it hasn't been officially released anywhere (besides the 12"), has it?

the Roc insert sez "'What We Do Is Wrong' The Movie coming Fall 2003"...oh jeez

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:26 (twenty-one years ago) link

oh damn, I just realized "Show Go On" isn't on the album...that shit pisses me off....see, they delayed this thing and changed the tracklist way too many times...but they shouldn't'a pushed that one off...maybe it'll be on Twista's album? oh well, it's on the Kanye mixtape... the only West track that is on the album is "Turn off The Lights" and it's pretty weak.

listening to the track w/ Young Gunz....Neef is way better than Young Chris, or at least less embarrassing, i dunno why Chris gets all the guest spots.

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:35 (twenty-one years ago) link

yes i'm filling up this thread all by myself for you ignorant fools....

this is the first time i've bothered to buy a Roc-a-fella album not by Jay-Z. and i had to get it on day 1 to show my support..because i definitely want it to sell better than the average Beans or Bleek album. probably won't do as well as the Cam'ron record did, though. but i'm happy he's doing good.

and shit, dude has a NECK BEARD. c'mon, you indie fucks, it's the closest you'll ever get to seeing Neutral Milk Hotel on the charts.

heh, i think Free just said the cops "tried to put cuffs on my ass literally"

the other bonus track is lifted from Mariah's album and it's listed on the back like this:

"YOU GOT ME FEATURING MARIAH CAREY, FREEWAY AND JAY-Z"

so nice of Free to feature himself, har har. i kinda like the combination of Mariah's silly high voice and Blaze's silly high vocal samples. hehe, he just referenced Winnie The Pooh.

revive! i *finally* bought this album and to my dismay the track that I knew called "flipside" is not on it. the one on it is a hot-enough justblaze timbaland cop, but the one i KNEW had rockin guitars and a sped up chorus talking about cactus juice. anyone know what the deal is?

brains (cerybut), Monday, 22 December 2003 01:55 (twenty years ago) link

wow, i'm surprised no one posted to this thread originally. i so want to love this album just a little more than i do. every song is so close to perfect but something just ruins it (usually the sung choruses). freeway's pretty top notch and he sorta brings a west coast underground vocal style to east coast gangster shit. oh well.

JaXoN (JasonD), Monday, 22 December 2003 03:34 (twenty years ago) link

I like the Mariah song.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 22 December 2003 03:35 (twenty years ago) link

#7 in my top 10 for 2003.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 22 December 2003 03:40 (twenty years ago) link

Philly bias.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 22 December 2003 03:59 (twenty years ago) link

no doubt!

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 22 December 2003 04:07 (twenty years ago) link

JaXoN, the song you speak, I remember getting on a mixtape like a year ago. It has Peedi Crack on it too, I think. I remember liking it quite a bit. But that isn't 'Flipside'. Much like "Night Shift", it's a song that never ended up anywhere, I think.

Rollie Pemberton (Rollie Pemberton), Monday, 22 December 2003 05:55 (twenty years ago) link

i find him torturous and am baffled by fiddo's love. some of the tracks are great but but but...

gaz (gaz), Monday, 22 December 2003 05:58 (twenty years ago) link

I really like it. Kind of not four, five, six with features. But really "Don't Cross the Line" first, for no reason, just so good, and then "Free," "All My Life," and the Mariah Carey one, where it's good because, sort of, it's got the really sugary vocal sample combined with sugary vocal and just sounding so good and what is it "You just like honey so you got me like Winnie the Pooh." I wish I could listen to that right now! "You Got Me." It was what I was listening to the first time someone ever touched my penis. A very professional but unnervingly nervous prostitute. For fifty dollars. We parked in an alley and she was upset with me for not being able to drive with the lights off. ("They're automatic ones. I can't turn them off!") So, whatever. She was nervous and parking and we drove around North Central while she kept going. Clicking over to "Hit 'Em Up." Until I was done.

I was dissapointed with most of the productions. Not hard enough,
not funky enough. That said, I adore Freeway's rhyming. He reminds
me of Mos Def, in that his actual lines may not be stunning, but his
voice is so cool and wise I can't help but love it.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Monday, 10 May 2004 03:13 (nineteen years ago) link

yeah he's great. FREE! ha what a great k or blaze track, whoever

$corpium ($corpium), Monday, 10 May 2004 03:51 (nineteen years ago) link

that ice city album is supposed to drop this month. that 'talk it, i live it' mixtape track is really unimpressive, a bunch of flat, sleepy punchline guys and freeway just popping up to call for the chorus.

hh, Monday, 10 May 2004 03:58 (nineteen years ago) link

and is peedi actually a member of ice city or not?

hh, Monday, 10 May 2004 04:01 (nineteen years ago) link

I've read that Peedi's in Ice City, along with Indy 500, who he does a lot of mixtape shit with, but details on that whole group are sketchy, i've only seen a couple things online, and the only track I've heard credited to IC is "Squad Up" f/ Joe Budden.

what was this song i heard on the radio today that sounded like freeway (99.9% sure it was him) with what sounds like some electro marvin gaye sample (or some other early 80s boogie rn'b track and the chorus was something like "some girls..."

i may semi-ironically bite drake & sarge's gucci list and do a 'best freeway songs of 2009' thing, because he's put out well over 100 songs in the past year.

some dude, Friday, 18 December 2009 21:19 (fourteen years ago) link

dude please do that. I've enjoyed about everything he's put out this year, but the sheer amount of shit there is prevents me from going back and finding specific bangers to jam, besides like "when i rap"
