What are some neglected Spy/Crime/Int.'l soundtracks (LP's, 45's, reissues) from the sixties and seventies? Which ones are overrated?

Post pictures of exceptionally cool/rare ones if you will please.

I like "Speziale Agente LK" by Bruno Nicolai.

Quincy Jones' "The Italian Job" works too.

i just picked up a copy of Our Man Flynt, scored by jerry goldsmith, for a buck. it's pretty good, and my friend says it was sampled and is now worth something?

That is a nice find for a buck.

Here's one of my favorites. I didn't pay a buck for it though:

HAROLD ROBBINS presents the Music of ANTONIONO CARLOS JOBIM
Music from
THE ADVENTURERS
THE RAY BROWN ORCHESTRA Arranged by QUINCY JONES
(Symbolic SYS 9000, 1970)

It has this very funky almost pornographic track called "Coming and Going" and a Bjork sampled a track called "Go Down Dying" for "Human Behavior"'s drums. I like the cover. I haven't come across anything else on the "Symbolic" label either.

oh this reminds me of another dollar record i have also by jerry goldsmith (and surprisingly found at the same store). the cassandra crossing. the title theme is repeated all over the record, but there's one with heavy rolling drums, echoed slasher violins and a harpsichord that is so amazing. it could easily be found on a portishead record

and it stars...................oj simpson, pre glove

I don't have the album, but the music to Danger: Diabolik is pretty cool (by Ennio Morricone, no less!).

that's top on my list right now. along w/his Navajo Joe - i've only really heard the indian war scream from the movie Election, but that's enough for me to want it.

I know it's probably too banal, but I really love all the early James Bond soundtracks, particularly "Goldfinger" and "You Only Live Twice."

curren spy&crime-flame of mine: ROY BUDD

btw, Stereoloab's cover of 'Get Carter' sounds pretty pale compared to Budd's s/track original

...has Roy Budd ever had an ILM tread to himself?

S: David Shire's soundtrack to The Taking Of Pelham 1-2-3. Also seek out some of John Dankworth's stuff. He wrote the soundtrack for Modesty Blaise, as well as the AWESOME theme music for The Avengers.

Seconding Roy Budd here too. Always liked his soundtrack to Zeppelin

John Barry owns this thread BTW

Roy Budd's Diamonds OST is badass. And impossible to find. I think the reissue is even OOP. Lalo Schifrin is the champ soundtrack composer. Michael Small's Klute OST is very spooky and very rare.

Does anyone know much about Italian/Greek/Israeli/Mediterranean-flavored funky soundtracks? That's what I need a primer on. I mean beyond Schifrin's Sol Madrid or Ennio Morricone or the Z. OST.

for italian soundtrack stuff, your best bet is checking out the reissue label Crippled Dick
