Covers You'd Like To Hear

I was listening to Leonard Cohen's "Suzanne" the other day, and for some reason, it popped into my head that I'd really like to hear Jarvis Cocker cover this song (yes, I know the last thing the world needs is *another* Suzanne cover, but humour me).

So, is there a song you would like to hear covered by a particular artist?

I would like to hear Suicide(circa 1977) cover The Long and WInding ROad

Mike Hanley, Tuesday, 5 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

In my customary bore role, here's where this is already up for discussion.

Nick, Tuesday, 5 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Thank you Mr. Nick... jeez...

JM, Tuesday, 5 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

hey you don't need to be so uptight about repeating old threads, maaaan. doesn't anyone else think it's actually a good idea? some of those old (full of stuff & still got new stuff being added)pages take about a whole minute or 2 to load on our skanky old computers, & we're busy people, you know?

duane zarakov, Tuesday, 5 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Anyhow I think that Alex wants Jarvis to cover Suzanne because there were accusations that Jarvis ripped off Suzanne for one of the songs on This is Hardcore, and he's being cheeky. Maybe I read too much into that.

I still want to hear Britney Spears's version of any of the songs off The Holy Bible. Alternately, "Burning Up".

Ally, Tuesday, 5 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

DMX covering "First Love Blood" by Laila France/Momus.

That would be somewhat ammusing.

shaun k, Wednesday, 6 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Britney doing "Burning Up" would be PERFECT and WONDERFUL.

I would love to hear a bunch of techstep and 2-step folks remix _Pornography_. It probably wouldn't work, but I want to see what would happen.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 6 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Hey, it looks like I get a *second chance* to say

I WOULD STILL LIKE TO HEAR LLOYD COLE SING 'IF YOU DON'T CRY'.

John Doe said that he always wanted to hear Johnny Cash and June Carter sing "Burning House of Love". So would I.

Tracer Hand, Friday, 8 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

For that matter, I'd quite like to hear the House of Love play a Johnny Cash song.

It would have been good if Joy Division had hung around to cover When Doves Cry by Prince.

I think this joke is in very poor taste.

Nick, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I think XTC could do a great cover of "Sy Borg." If they wanted to.

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Sorry, that word completely slipped my mind.

Yeah, that would've been really swinging!

I'm developing an almost morbid curiousity as to who will perform what is currently the most *inevitably* pending cover - an update of the original Spiderman theme (for upcoming movie soundtrack of course). All I know is that it had better not have f'ing *anything* to do with U2...

Kim, Sunday, 22 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

gawd,I do actually like Joy Division a lot so it's not as if I was trying to mock Ian Curtis or anything.I've just thought for ages that they would do a good version of 'When Doves Cry'...OK,the lyrics are overly sexed in comparison to any JD song, but it'd be perfect for Ian Curtis' monotone.Martin Hannett could have worked magic with that drum beat, and the synths are perfect too.

I'd really like to hear X cover "Take the Money & Run" by Steve Miller. John & Exene would alternate stanzas and sing harmony on the chorus...

Some band involving Cornell and the non-singing members of Rage Against The Machine. The name escapes me at the moment, though I'm sure it was something macho.

I'd pay to see Pavarotti doing Aerosmith's "Dream On"

Curtis Stephens, Tuesday, 19 November 2002 02:30 (twenty-one years ago) link

Squarepusher doing 'Take Five' by Brubeck.

Wesley Willis or Mark E. Smith doing 'Sledgehammer' by Peter Gabriel.

And lastly, U2's 'Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For' done by Ladytron.

These are not exactly easy to imagine, but they do fill one's mind with possibilities. Or mine, anyhoo.
