"Full On Kevin's Mom" by Soundgarden

Bizarre, arguably humorous paean to sex with the mother of a good friend and peer on Soundgarden's major label debut from `89, LOUDER THAN LOVE. Sort've an odd subject matter for the otherwise po-faced practicioners of all things Grunge (excluding "Big Dumb Sex", of course). Your thoughts?

I threw on LOUDER THAN LOVE this morning (my need for castrative Cornell yawpings not sated by the new Audioslave) and paid attention to "Full On Kevin's Mom" narrative for the first time in a long while and was struck by its strangeness. I mean, how did this song come about: "Hey guys, gather `round and lemme tell ya about a really unfortunate and acrimonious episode of my childhood in which friendships were ruined in a morass of hormonal overdrive and morality gone horribly astray. I think it would make for a kick-ass song!"

Prior to _Badmotorfinger_, there could be a case drawn up to support their status as the non-po-faced practicioners of el grungo (cf. "Circle of Power", "FOPP", the two _Louder Than Love_ songs mentioned above). Of course, I can't stands much of the 'Garden pre-_BMF_, and that especially includes _Louder Than Love_, which is waaaaay too nondescript for my tastes.

wow alex, classic just for bringing this up... this is like high school all over.

i think for "full on kev's mom" the key is in the telling... the less is said, the more implied...

the song begins and ends (?) with the caveat:
"you don't get nothing for free"...
a double negative... but you know you're in for a tale.

okay i had to c/p:

You don't get nothing for free
Kev & me were two of three
Three brothers to the end
Then one went full on Kevin's mom
Now things have changed

Full on Kev's mom
Full on Kev's mom
Full on Kev's mom
Full on

You don't get nothing for free
And this one took the long way
This one took the hard road
I ain't saying who
But it wasn't me

We were three
Kevin's mom made four
(We don't come around anymore)

six years pass...

It's that 'We don't come around anymore' line right at the end that says it all, really.
