pita - 7 tons, get outfennesz - hotel paral.lelgoem - dertig cmthe first fennoberg thing
most of the things i think are my favorite mego releases actually seem to be on touch or that shitheel jim o'rourke's label.
fuck tom smith and ohne as well - why mego bothered to put his shit out after years of him tossing snipes at them i'll never know. but as long as _the wire_ is finally paying attention to him, i reckon he doesn't care.

but I do have "Hotel Paral.lel" and found it interesting, but truth be told, I only listened to it all the way through once. "Endless Summer" on the other hand is really beautiful.
― Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 3 December 2002 18:50 (10 years ago) Permalink
"aus" by fennesz (one of the last songs on hotel paral.lel) is really amazing, as good as anything on endless summer... i think the jim o'rourke song "eureka" was influenced by this a little bit.
showroom dummies is pretty wild, "seven tons revisited" (as performed by pita/fennesz), the ilpo vaisanen record is great, the fennesz plays 7", the potuznik amore motore (...autobahn) from a few years ago would probably be right up the alley of any mike ink/kompakt fans who are looking backward, both the fenn o'berg records are pop-glitch click/cut exercises in live-editing funnnnnn. that's all i can think of off the top of my head, will probably add more when i'm actually in the same zip code as my music. yeah, that new kevin drumm record is really wild, although i like the triangles cd better which he may or may not have been involved with.

all the TLASILA stuff i've heard sounded like moronic ranting through an answering machine with someone practicing the bass in the background. "classic."
― your null fame (yournullfame), Thursday, 5 December 2002 17:20 (10 years ago) Permalink
The only TLASILA thing I have is the farewell double, The Wigmaker, and it sounds kinda like your description, and yeah, I think that's a good thing. At least it's more interesting to me than, say, J-Lo singing about how she's still "down" with people from the Bronx or something.

interestingly, i have a friend who loves TLASILA and even occasionally thinks he's a friend of smith's and he says the ohne album is trumped by tart's "radio orange" (on swill radio), which is a quite enjoyable album.
i think it's funny that people actually take "the wigmaker" seriously; if that's five years of work, it's five years wasted.

seriously, those two Cindytalk albums are some of the best music on Mego. hypnotic, emotional noise. the recent split w/ Robert Hampson is pretty smart as well, all wind-clattered sheet metal and organic drones

re kevin drumm his album w/ daniel menche (mego 88) has been my soundtrack to the uk election aftermath
not mego but menche has a tape out on tapeworm called 'raw fall' that i think youd really vibe - mostly unprocessed field recordings of waterfalls & its powerful and mesmerizing. he also has a related lp out called 'kataract' thats on editions mego thats more processed and 'constructed' but i think 'raw fall' is superior

That track "Viennese Tragedy" is so-called because it was recorded live at this swanky jazz club in Vienna where Fenn O'Berg were booked for some reason. About 10 people showed up.

another great Mego thing this year is the Hecker 12" he did for a Comme des Garcon show. really sick rhythmic noise loops, kinda a cross between early Boyd Rice and Profan Records, w/ a spacious digital static piece on the flip

well, i'll rep for some o those "rehberg & bauer"s, which still hold up - i actually LIKE them, but everything in his own name seems to me devoid of ingenuity & sub-bruce gilbert "my first zoom sampletrack" exercises (although i might hazard a guess they're max/msp supercollider or what have you) obvious systems & methods, & not at all transportative, revelatory or moving (even in a cold, paranoid machine type of way). it's only my take. don't matter any.

In addition to being handsome and French, Schaeffer (as I understand it) helped pioneer the highly exact science of making bumping, clubby jams out of steam engine samples. In other words, the Oneohtrix Point Never dude probably likes him a lot, so you’re fucking nobody if you don’t too. The second record Recollection GRM has announced so far is by Guy Reibel, who, for all intents and purposes is the same guy as Pierre Schaeffer, except with a much much shorter Wikipedia page.
