First new album under his own name in 11 years, I guess that's worth its own thread. Two 7" singles to be released, one yesterday, one on 5/24. Album on 6/28.

Other details are pretty sparse right now. Anyone heard the single?

fuuuuuuuuck yes to this news. haven't heard the single yet but stoked.

It's weird not getting instant gratification these days, but at least I know it exists.

Apparently will be available via Warners Dist. in North America sooner or later, my local vendor told me. He also said the Cornelius/Penguin Cafe Orchestra RSD disc sold out in five mins. Bah.

I want that single so bad!

I really wanna know what his new sound is, if he has one.

http://sp.wmg.jp/cornelius/ is awesome

Karl Malone, Thursday, 27 April 2017 19:55 (three weeks ago) Permalink

The stuff he's done since Sensuous hasn't sounded notably different but I wouldn't surprised if he had something up his sleeve for this one. There must be some reason why he's putting out a new album after this long.

The good news is that the three songs he wrote for Metafive - "Don't Move", "Split Spirit", and "Chemical", are all incredible. He's definitely still on his game.

frogbs, Thursday, 27 April 2017 20:05 (three weeks ago) Permalink

I really wouldn't mind if it sounded like a continuation of Point & Sensuous, but I feel the same way. The album art is also drastically different.

afriendlypioneer, Thursday, 27 April 2017 20:06 (three weeks ago) Permalink

Have any of you heard it yet/

wish Matador would reissue Point on vinyl

sleeve, Friday, 28 April 2017 16:24 (three weeks ago) Permalink

he hasn't been doing stuff under his own name (excepting that weird NHK DESIGN AH thing a couple years back) but he's definitely been busy in the music scene. i really like the salyu x salyu stuff i've heard.

increasingly bonkers (rushomancy), Friday, 28 April 2017 17:02 (three weeks ago) Permalink

there's also Constellations of Music, which is basically CM5 but does contain a few original tracks on it (including two by salyu x salyu, one of which is a great cover of "Hammond Song"), plus a song that he did with The Bird and the Bee which sorta fell through the cracks. worth checking out I suppose.

still think "Split Spirit" is my favorite thing he's done in the last decade

frogbs, Friday, 28 April 2017 18:57 (three weeks ago) Permalink

Oh wow, I had no idea he did Design - Ah! Very familiar with that

calstars, Friday, 28 April 2017 20:01 (three weeks ago) Permalink

is there a way to order the new album in vinyl in English?

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 28 April 2017 21:34 (three weeks ago) Permalink

Design was really cool. i really enjoy the animations they have with his music. it felt very much in the spirit of the Sensuous videos.

no luck on ebay

It's killing me that I can't hear this. I can't fathom its absence form the net.

afriendlypioneer, Friday, 5 May 2017 15:59 (two weeks ago) Permalink

hahaha me too. I just want to hear a minute of it, to know what the sound is like :P I guess the fact that it's a 7" limited to 500 copies which (I imagine) sold almost exclusively in Japan will do it.

frogbs, Friday, 5 May 2017 16:05 (two weeks ago) Permalink

alas, where is What.CD when you need it ?

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 5 May 2017 16:05 (two weeks ago) Permalink

I resorted to translating a couple reviews on Amazon.co.jp, but the translations are incomprehensible, though seem positive.

pretty cool. not mindblowing but i like.

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 12 May 2017 12:53 (one week ago) Permalink

yeah its something that would've slotted into Sensuous though it feels a lot more developed than most of that album. video is amazing, of course.

frogbs, Friday, 12 May 2017 13:08 (one week ago) Permalink

Tracklist:
01 “If You’re Here”
02 “Sometime / Someplace”
03 “Dear Future Person”
04 “Surfing On A Mind Wave Pt 2″
05 “In A Dream”
06 “Helix / Spiral”
07 “Mellow Yellow Feel”
08 “The Spell Of A Vanishing Loveliness”
09 “The Rain Song”
10 “Crépuscule”

i want to hear a song called "Surfing On A Mind Wave Pt 2"

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 12 May 2017 14:48 (one week ago) Permalink

Love it.

afriendlypioneer, Friday, 12 May 2017 15:18 (one week ago) Permalink

so that's the lead-off track? wow

frogbs, Friday, 12 May 2017 15:22 (one week ago) Permalink

it's really promising, i'm glad he's managed to push this sound further.

ufo, Friday, 12 May 2017 15:29 (one week ago) Permalink

as much as I like the stuff he's done since Point I do think it comes off sometimes like a collection of parts. those same parts are in this track of course - it really does seem like it uses "Fit Song" as sort of a launch point - but this definitely feels like a completed song. I've listened to it four times now and it's really growing on me.

frogbs, Friday, 12 May 2017 15:34 (one week ago) Permalink

It's much more grounded in the song than an exercise, which "Fit Song" feels like. Think his time with MetaFive helped him out.

afriendlypioneer, Friday, 12 May 2017 15:36 (one week ago) Permalink

yeah there's a real song with a climax to it, more than just a nice intricate groove bit like a lot of Point and Sensuous was.

it feels closer to the salyu x salyu album than either of those actually

ufo, Friday, 12 May 2017 15:47 (one week ago) Permalink

maybe I'm just wildly speculating but I'm guessing his recent divorce is gonna factor into the sound here

frogbs, Friday, 12 May 2017 16:39 (one week ago) Permalink

Is anyone getting a faint trace of Hosono from this or am I projecting?

MaresNest, Friday, 12 May 2017 18:31 (one week ago) Permalink

i have been listening to Miharu Koshi's "Parallelism" a lot these days and imo Cornelius's Fantasma-and-posts works are super influenced by that stuff. baroque robotic pop with lots of cool percussion, things zipping by, drum-and-bass influences, etc.

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 12 May 2017 18:39 (one week ago) Permalink

that album was produced by Hosono in 1984 and i highly recommend for fans of Cornelius. "Toubousha" sounds a lot like "Clash".

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 12 May 2017 18:42 (one week ago) Permalink

it does sound like something on Medicine Compilation. now I hear it.

frogbs, Friday, 12 May 2017 18:44 (one week ago) Permalink

loving this more an more, both msic and video. i love the calligraphy oscilloscope, that painting that starts waving and extruding and turning 3D, the elements drifting and clipping in and out of reality.
