And no Roman Flügel.
ah crap, yeah I LOVED his track and Koze's remix on the Pampa comp. Crap that should have made my list too.
― octobeard, Friday, 20 January 2017 18:34 (seven years ago) link
The remix is nominated, I voted for that. But his album was great, really sorta jarring and captivating sound-design. Almost harsh and beautiful at the same time, ultra close-up.

I assumed someone was going to nominate the Phantogram album so I didn't bother nominating anything
It's the only thing I would have put on my ballot that didn't make the nomination list

why do people gate Frankie Sinatra? album only gets started at that point. is it because it has trace amounts of hippie-ska in there? I think it's fun and kinda masterful in how they cut up Wilmot's vocal in the way they did. I probably would have voted it.
― Lennon, Elvis, Hendrix etc (dog latin), Friday, 20 January 2017 19:54 (seven years ago) link
I don't think I'm going to vote this year. My mental health has been all over the place and I just haven't really listened to much or taken anything in properly. ;_;
― emil.y, Friday, 20 January 2017 19:55 (seven years ago) link
aw
if there's even five things you really loved and can think of right now it might be worth chucking them in. but really, best to you and take care above all

The sample on 'Frankie Sinatra' is great. Pretty sure the reasons for disliking it are too do with everything else about it (reminding people who don't like Gorillaz of Gorillaz etc.).
― nashwan, Friday, 20 January 2017 20:12 (seven years ago) link
I don't hate the track, but the beat is very plodding and circus-y compared to the rest of the album. I also find Danny Brown's verses to be pretty grating. I like the MF Doom verse.
The rest of the album is so easy going and groovy, makes Frankie Sinatra feel misplaced, but I'll still listen to it once in a while.

why do people gate Frankie Sinatra?
I assume you mean "hate" and it's because it's a terrible song that makes "The Salmon Dance" sound like the greatest party jam ever recorded.
― (The caption: “fine dining.”) (DJP), Friday, 20 January 2017 20:22 (seven years ago) link
Sorry to hear that emil.y. :( agreed with the above - there's always something totally great and unknown on your ballot.
I'm definitely going to be compiling this right down to the wire. I tried to be organised this year but now it's here and everything is chaos again.
― dance band (tangenttangent), Friday, 20 January 2017 20:24 (seven years ago) link
Will vote for Deerful, emil.y - in fact everyone should :)
― Jeff W, Friday, 20 January 2017 20:59 (seven years ago) link
Voted. Could only find 20 tracks that I really felt for, which means I probably have heard way too little k-pop, azonto, etc. Might have been a slightly happier 2016 if I had.
― Frederik B, Friday, 20 January 2017 21:05 (seven years ago) link
"Frankie Sinatra" veers perilously close to electroswing which is imo the worst genre in the history of music
― monotony, Friday, 20 January 2017 21:23 (seven years ago) link
oh I hate electroswing too but c'mon.
anyway, I'm also sad emil.y's not voting. sorry to hear it's not been going great. really hope things improve for you this yesr
― Lennon, Elvis, Hendrix etc (dog latin), Friday, 20 January 2017 21:29 (seven years ago) link
Voted! As ever, the final cuts were very painful indeed.
― Jeff W, Friday, 20 January 2017 21:46 (seven years ago) link
i know it's kind of a dumb thing to do but what happens if you list something that wasn't nominated, does it just get ignored or does it break the rest of your ballot
― marcos, Friday, 20 January 2017 21:47 (seven years ago) link
For me, Frankie Sinatra reminds me more of Eminem's "Comedy" singles than Gorillaz or Electroswing, which is a sound I can do without. In particular, it reminds me of Obie Trice's "Got Some Teeth".
― MarkoP, Friday, 20 January 2017 21:49 (seven years ago) link
Kicking myself for not nominating a lot of stuff I figured would be accounted for. Definitely made the final ordering easier, but I didn't end up getting a full count as a result.

King, "The Greatest" doesn't seem to be on the tracks document. It is on the Spotify playlist

― Spottie, Friday, 20 January 2017 22:16 (seven years ago) link
Actually, I started looking through the lists and I might be able to put together top tens for both. Any more than that and I'd be entering into the realms of "in another year I probably would have given this a lot more time so let's just vote for it on principle", which is a stupid way of doing things.
― emil.y, Friday, 20 January 2017 22:17 (seven years ago) link
I would have voted for "The Greatest"
― Al Moon Faced Poon (Moodles), Friday, 20 January 2017 22:19 (seven years ago) link
"The Greatest" was on last year's list, fwiw. I didn't vote for it this time. But if we decided it's eligible two years in a row, hey, I have a new #1.

― NickB, Friday, 20 January 2017 22:42 (seven years ago) link
The Greatest placed last year iirc so not eligible.
If you vote for something that wasn't nominated then either it just gets skipped and the rest of your votes are counted as normal or I add it to the noms list as a write-in - no guarantees though, especially for late ballots.

voted in two steps, first for albums than for tracks, i hope that was ok. seandalai et al. thanks for organising this poll. 2016 was quite a good year for music i thought. i had no problem to vote for 25 albums or tracks. i am intrigued for the results.

We are finalising ours...
Voted.Note: the track "Skin Tight" is incorrectly credited to "Mr. Eazi & Eugy", this should be "Mr. Eazi ft. Efya". If it finishes at #23 in the rollout (who's to say), it's only fair Efya receives fair credit.

Dammit, I always plan on listening to a snippet (at least) of all 1300+ tracks before voting, but I think I got through only 600 or so this year, and it didn't change my ballot much. As with past years, I'll console myself with the knowledge that like all polls its just a snapshot of demographics, and not an objective distillation.

good lord imago do you wait to the last minute in every poll?Surely you formed your faves throughout the year? Im not sure hearing an album once in the last few weeks of a year can really be an album of the year.
